Does the 'anything ending in ...studies' myth apply to RE? Watch

I know of the myth that anything subject ending in 'studies' aren't as respected as others, are regarded as easier and sometimes not even classed as proper A-Levels etc.. Which I agree with in terms of General, Business, Media, etc. But I was just wondering if this also applies to RE? It is called 'Religious Studies' but a lot of people refer to it as Philosophy and Ethics or something? And I'm pretty sure that's what it says on the exam too.

Basically I'm thinking of taking RE as I find it quite interesting but I definitely don't want to take an irrelevant subject - in the future I would like to study English and French at Birmingham or French at Durham, something along those lines. As you can see, Durham is a university I'm interested in, so I'm also wondering how they would see it?

I did RE/RS whatever you prefer and on the exams it does say Philosophy and ethics also on results as well and uni's know its Philosophy & Ethics and most of my friends say you did Philosophy right? Instead of RE so it doesn't really matter...

I don't think it's a myth. But yes, in my secondary school especially during UCAS time, RE was put into the same boat as business and media studies.

RS isn't as bad as other "... studies" for a fourth A-Level...

RS is an exception of the "...studies" myth.
Just like Biology is an exception of the "all subjects ending in 'ology'" myth.
Both are regarded as "preferred" subjects.
