Tangent to a circle

The circle C has equation x2 - 8x +y2 - 4y +15. A line is a tangent to a circle if it touches it once only (rather than intersecting it twice or not touching it at all). Use this information to show that l is a tangent to C.

l= 2x-y-1=0

i rearranged L for y

subbed into the whole circle equation

got a massive equation
which i simplified

and i needed the quadratic equation to solve after i simplified, what have i achieved?

You need to have a good understanding of the basic principles else you will not be able to attempt exam questions

You need to consider b24acb^2 - 4ac
