Aside from the obvious rivalries that exist between universities such as Oxford vs., King's College London vs. University College London and St. Andrews vs. Edinburgh, what other rivalries do you think exist between different universities?

Swansea and Cardiff have a lot of rivalry. They have a huge sporting competition each year - Welsh Varsity. It's huge, definitely the date of the year. We compete in 20 sports but the main attraction is Rugby in the Millenium stadium with 30k nutball students. It's a 'grudge match of epic proportions'. Cannot wait. Swansea have it in the bag.

Usually universities will have a substantial rivalry with their local ex-poly which is usually based around calling one side stupid and the other side posh (e.g. Manchester vs Manchester Met, Newcastle vs Northumbria)
You also get some rivalries based around sport (e.g. Christie Cup which is Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds; Two Cities Boat Race between Manchester and Salford).

MMU have a thing for telling Manchester university students they can buy drugs from them whenever they want, but it's only meant to be light hearted. If people take it too far (from either side) they are idiots.
Usually it's sporting competitions when unis get together against each other.
