It all depends where you stop. I was in Talybont South 2 years ago on the ground floor and orange had a rubbish signal, had to stand on a chair by the window just to get a signal! Although things might have changed since then!
I found in Talybont you had to be on the top floor or outside for Orange to work. . . .O2 is very good everywhere though.
How's vodafone?? I just took for granted that there'd be phone masts littering the city

I got an O2 Samsung E900.

By the way, for anyone wanting to know about signals, there is something on the Carphone Warehouse site which lets u type a postcode in, and you can see the signal strength for a certain network.
I used to have a terrible time trying to get an orange signal in Taly South 0_o

I've got generally good signal everywhere in Cardiff with my orange phone, though maybe I just haven't been everywhere yet :s-smilie:

What about the big Boots? Mine always goes dodgy in the middle of the store.

I know a lot of people that had problems with orange in Taly South, although it might be better now.

Well it wasn't better for last year's freshers, I was in Taly South with Orange, and I had to lean out the window at an angle to have a phone conversation. It was ridiculous, so I switched to O2 and they were fantastic. Could even walk across the hall to the kitchen and it wouldn't cut out!
So lesson is: Orange doesn't work in Taly South very well at all.
Sorry to dig up such an old thread, but is anyone on the network "3" at all? I'm thinking of signing up to one of their contracts, but a friend in London said the signal was really bad (Central London!!) - the phone kept switching between 3g and 2g signal and it was just really hard to make calls. Can anyone tell me what it's like in Cardiff?

My sister had 3g, I'm pretty sure, and she got terrible signal everywhere -- in Nottingham and Cardiff

02 I'd say is the best, though I'm still with orange for now  heh
Anyone know about Virgin? I don't really want to swap networks but if the signal is crap then there is no point in having it.

Hmm... that's annoying. Apparently 3 use O2's signal if they can't find their own. They have far better call plans than O2 calls-for-money-wise. :s-smilie:

The tower block in Uni hall is a Transmitter for O2 being on a hill it give good coverage of cathays and persumably talybont. (any one who has been to the top floor of tower will know what I mean. I use Vodaphone and have not had a problem.
The only place I can't get signal in cardiff is inside metros but then again who does inside there.

Lol. Metros is fun

Can't say there's ever been a problem getting a signal, for vodafone, orange 02 and virgin. Don't know much about 3. This generally applies to talybont and senghenydd halls. Could be worse, you could be at glamorgan uni, hunting for a signal. Before a tangent begins on how much i hate the uni of glam, it's worse because using a phone up there is about as much use as telling a mountain goat to ring his bell.
