Looking young - really getting to me

I have a really annoying problem and I hate it. Its actually quite embarrassing too as I'm really insecure about it - hence the anon. Anyway, I'm 18 but people always assume Im younger - at least under 16. It really gets to me as I have low self esteem anyway. I mean, a woman at the lottery stand the other day asked if I was 16 and was even going to ID me until I said I was actually 18 (she could tell I was annoyed). Some bloke I didnt even know once said that I look 14 in a really nasty way in front of all my friends too. Its really getting me down. How do I look the age I am? Can anyone give me some advice?

Make-up techniques? Or... I dunno...

I look pretty young too. Try doing your hair in different ways - apparently I look more my age when I leave my hair natural/curly, rather than straightening it. Try different clothing styles, makeup, etc. It is really annoying. I'm kinda used to it now though. I ALWAYS get ID'd for fags when most of my 16/17 year old friends have been able to get served for alcohol for at least a year.

No offence, but why on earth does it bother you so much? I am 21 and i DID get id'd for a lottery ticket the other day, i just found it really funny.. it doesn't bother me. The way you should look at it is... how many older woman want to look young and pay to look young? When your older atleast you will look younger than you are... you will start to appreciate it then. Try not to let it get you down. Have your hair cut into a choppy bob and apply more make up, when i go out to town, if i do my hair right and apply make up i don't get id'd as much, it's nothing to get embarrassed about though!

Don't let it bother you. It's only their opinion anyway. I'm 18 and even my boss didn't believe me- he's seen my passport too, he told me there ''is no way you're over 16.'' I do look younger than my friends, but I actually quite like it. Other than using make-up ('smoky eyes' works for nights out) and clothes there is nothing you can do about it. Maybe trying a new hair cut- shorter, perhaps, would help?! But don't let it get you down, it doesn't need to be annoying unless you want it to be.
I get ID-ed all the time because I'm a bit short and people think I'm younger than my face looks...it's so annoying.

I just deal with it and think that it must mean I'm cute enough to be regarded as younger:biggrin:
I have the opposite problem. Never get ID'd cos I apparently look old!
yeh i think it better to look youngish.. not to young!

looking old can be worst.. when you go out clubbin and stuff the older looking ppl just look out of place (really old lokin).. so it is better to look younger

Review your hairstyle/dress sense. This might not the reason though.

I'm nearly 21 and people still mistake me for a 14 yr old....
My friend, who's 18, was asked her age when we went to a 15 certificated film, as they thought she was younger...

I look a lot younger than I am. I think it's probably becuse I don't wear make-up, and I have 'babyish' skin...

However, it can be an advantage. I've been able to buy a child's ticket on a bus and at the cinema, thus saving precious pennies...
hehe i used to do the bus fare thingy... gotta luv dem pennies
