Should I go on the pill?

I've been thinking alot recently about going on the pill. My periods are really irregular (every 5 - 8 1/2 weeks) and its really annoying having to plan things around my period when I dont know when it will be. It also makes be feel very ill on my first day and I really want that to stop. Do you think going on the pill would help me? Im very underweight - does this mean that the pill is not sutable for someone of my build? Are there any major side effects to worry about? If I did decide to go on the pill when would I have to start? On the first day of my period?
You really need to talk through it with your doctor - make an appointment and he will tell you if it is suitable for you and talk through how to take it.

Go to the doctors, tell them about wanting to regulate your periods. They will discuss your options and answer your questions, far better than we can.

Are there other ways of regulating your periods without going on the pill?

yeh, they can give you tablets. There simular to the pill. Although doctors prefer the pill, because you dont have to pay for it because it comes under free contraception and it acts as a contraception too. Kills 2 birds with one stone.
I think the pill is brilliant, my only problem with it was that I have such a hectic lifestyle I was worried about forgetting it. So the doctor offered me the implant, which is better. Same thing just not having to worry about taking it everyday. Also it made my periods so light they mostly last for a day or two!

As i understand it though, the doctor will only put you on the inplant or injections, once hes satified your not going to receive any adverse effects from it.

Some people end up getting put on the mini pill because their body isnt suited to the high doses of hormones given by the combined pill and inplant/injection.
