Pro ana websites

Has anybody else stumbled across them?

It's really sad and worrying to see so many girls starving themselves and encouraging each other with thinspiration, such as Nicole Richie, when they have the urge to eat something.

I didn't realise how far spread the problem was...

It seems that heroin chic is back in fashion... and nothing can be done to stop it.

i used to live off those sites :frown:

you reckon you could explain a little more for the ignorant of us?

The thing that worries me about them is the assertion that anorexia isn't a mental disorder but a life choice... I find that a bit disturbing :frown:

as harsh has it sounds ,i don't think the likes of Nicole Richie are to blame completely sure she's sickeningly thin, but thats her choice, she shouldnt have to be a certain weight. I think the mindset of those who develop anorexia is dubious in the first place, and that should be identified earlier, im really quite thin for a boy and constantly see pumped up men in the media but i dont eat myself out of house and home and go on a binge.I just think oh well. Mental stability has to be questioned if you're going to take serious advice off one of those websites.

Websites where anorexic people encourage eachother to lose more weight, have competitions with it etc, and generally idolise extremely thin celebrities such as nicole richie.

Not too healthy.

But you don't use them anymore? Well done...:hugs:

I came across one today where one of the girls using them had died and a memorial page was set up.
It's easy to see how "useful" they can be for promoting weight loss...

Has a certain irony to it dont you think?

the sites, are a really crazy thing!
i use to spend alot of time surfers trying them, printing certain stuff,
lookin at pictures and tips.
its not a nice world to be obsessed by . . . and if u no someone thats into them, u shud try to get them out of it.
its a dangerous area to be in,,
lucky for me i had a lucky escape when i came ill with glandular fever.
These days thin is to over rated, and although every1 wants to be thin, its due to ppls idols and search for self perfection.

Yer, it's tragic isn't it. I've seen some of these sites and also some myspace profiles of people involved and it is crazy to see the way they encourage each other to not eat and obsess over every calorie. It's a very sad state of affairs really, however I do agree that it has to be something wrong psychologically as this kind of behaviour appears to someone not influenced by such sites as being simply insane.

To the person who used to have such eating disorders and doesn't anymore, congratulations

How weird I actually stumbled across one this morning by accident.
I felt compelled to read pretty much the whole site, it made me sick, there just awful.

I've no idea who Nicole Richie is but if she's anorexic she's not healthy. I don't mind people who are naturally skinny because they can't help it! But anorexic people I really don't understand, why would they do that to themselves? I know it's really a mental disorder sometimes because how in the world can they think they're fat?! Personally, I went onto one of those websites and the photos of anorexically skinny girls with their sticking out ribs and pelvis bones really sickened me. I don't see why anyone would want to be like that.

I was just really curious and googled one. I was fascinated reading it, the girl that had set it up was so convinced she was in control and that everyone else was weak for being 'addicted to food'. It's really scary.

When i read the title to this thread i thought that you missed the letter L after 'ana' and thought wtf!?

My housemate visit those sites/forums. Half a year ago she was was disgusted by them...girls chanting how thin they are, how proud they are to have starved themselves to below 40kg etc etc. And she was soo angry at them she left an abusive message on it, telling those girls are stupid and if they died, she would have no sympathy for them coz they deserved it (harsh i know:eek: ) And now....shes a user of the forum and she dieted like mad, starving herself, calorie counting galore! The ironic thing is...shes a food scientist and she wants to become a nutritionist!? she should know better!!!

Shes alright now as she is eating healthily again but she still gets pissed off after everytime she eats and complains why her appetite is so big and just goes into strops.:s:

I didn't know such sites existed! but its so stupid....so tragic...god i can't think of any words to describe it >_<

One theory is that its not necessarily about looks but the concept of control and discipline. Food intake is easy to control, controlling this gives a sense of controlling ones life. But in a sense the obession with controlling food becomes quite out of control.

There are so many factors involving eating disorders but these sites certainly don't help matters much. It really pisses me off.

This actually reminds me of a film I watched about a dancer who thought she was too fat compared to her peers so she starved herself and did excessive exercise. Amazing film. Wish I remembered what it was called.

can anyone list a few pro-ana websites, im trying to search for some to see what they're all about but can't seem to find any extreme ones.

it would be really silly and irresponsible to post them here. If you want to find one that badly google it, you'll find something.
