:desu: AJ's World-Class Winter Anime Preview 2014 :desu:

Here we go again~ A smaller season this time (which meant the thread *only* took me 8 hours to put together), but quality matters more than quantity.

These series are all due to air in the first few weeks of January. If you're looking for something to watch between now and then, maybe check last season's preview thread for some inspiration!

Buddy Complex

Image

Genre: Sci-fi, Mecha, Action
Website: http://buddy-complex.jp
Animation Studio: Sunrise
Japanese Airdate: January 5, 2014
Seiyuu: Hanazawa Kana, Matsuoka Yoshìtsugu, Uchiyama Kouki
Director: Tanabe Yasuhiro
PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jCg8agvjTI

(Original post by Summary:)
Aoba Watase, a high school boy living in a city called Maihama, leads a normal life of school, romance, and the swim club. Watase’s life changes when he sees a beautiful girl, Hina Yumihara, at the pool one day and discovers he is initially the only person who can see her. In order to keep his high school’s swimming club open by recruiting more members, Watase hopes to enlist Hinao to appear in a promo video shot by Watase’s close friend, Gengo. Hina agrees, but on the condition that he does something for her in exchange – pilot a mecha for an organization known as Celebrum.

Agreeing to her request, Watase is drawn into a world of fighting giant robots in a game-like world that he must save from Deutera Areas formed by aliens known as Gards-orm that threaten to destroy the earth. However, Watase soon comes to realize that the world that he is living in might not even be real at all and begins to find that everything he is doing is strangely familiar. As he questions the nature of the reality he lives in, Hina must continue to fight in order to protect the lives of those important to him.

He agreed to PILOT A MECH just so that she would feature in his promo video!? :zomg: Not sure what to make of this one after watching the trailer, but Sunrise mech shows are usually a good laugh. :p:

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shìtai! Ren

Image

Genre: Comedy, Drama, Romance
Website: http://www.anime-chu-2.com/tv/
Animation Studio: Kyoto Animation
Japanese Airdate: January 9, 2014
Seiyuu: Fukuyama Jun, Uchida Maaya, Uesaka Sumire
Director: Ishihara Tatsuya (Air, Nichijou)
PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTtzINZFQts

(Original post by Summary:)
Due to various events, Yuuta and Rikka are living together. This secret co-habitation is so exciting for the two lovebirds! Or so it should be...

Is having a chuuni girlfriend too high of a hurdle for Yuuta, who never even went out with a normal girl?! Yuuta worries about how to advance his relationship with Rikka. And then everyone else, Nibutani, Kumin, and Dekomori, have powered up by advancing a grade. Furthermore, the cause of his chuunibyou outburst in middle school, the girl who calls herself Sophia Ring Saturn the 7th, Satone Shichimiya appears...

This is the long-awaited second season of the adolescent romantic comedy revolving around chuunibyou that makes you laugh and cry.

More Chuunibyou is definitely a good start to 2014! :excited: The first series made my Top 12 anime list for 2012, and if this sequel manages the same balance of hilarious delusional battles and cutesy awkward romance, it could well make the list again this year.

D-Frag!

Image

Genre: Comedy, School, Seinen
Website: http://www.d-fragments.net
Animation Studio: Brains Base
Japanese Airdate: January 7, 2014
Seiyuu: Konishi Katsuyuki, Saito Chiwa, Takahashi Mikako
Director: Sugawara Seiki
PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0NzWpD4Hvg

(Original post by Summary:)
Kazama Kenji likes to believe he is something of a delinquent. Moreover, others seem to like to agree that he is. Of course, Kenji's gang finds their way to a group of four not-so-normal girls—Chitose, Sakura, Minami and Roka—and all at once, whatever reputation he may have is nothing compared to the outrageous behavior of the girls. Shanghaied into joining their club, what will happen to his everyday life from that point on?

This one could be alright, as I do like comedy anime that feature delinquents as the main characters. :giggle: Animation didn't look to be anything special going by the PV, but that's not crucial in a comedy. :nah:

Gin no Saji 2nd Season

Image

Genre: Comedy, School, Slice-of-life
Website: http://www.ginsaji-anime.com
Animation Studio: A-1 Pictures
Japanese Airdate: January 31, 2014
Seiyuu: Miyake Marie, Kimura Ryohei, Sakurai Tooru
Director: Deai Kotomi
PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJjIU_vAP-I

(Original post by Summary:)
Second season of Gin no Saji.

I enjoyed the first series, so will almost certainly watch this sequel! Would highly recommend the first series to anyone who's curious – there's still time to marathon it before January! :giggle:

Hamatora The Animation

Image

Genre: Game, Shounen, Super Power
Website: http://hamatorapj.com/animation.html
Animation Studio: NAZ
Japanese Airdate: January 7, 2013
Seiyuu: Kato Emiri, Ohsaka Ryota, Hatano Wataru
Director: Kishi Seiji (Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio: Ars Nova, Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashìta)
PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ0FdejcFf0

(Original post by Summary:)
"Minimum" - a special inborn power found in a limited number of human beings, known as "minimum holders." In Yokohama, the detective team Hamatora, formed by two minimum holders named Nice and Murasaki, comes across information connected to a serial killer being pursued by their old friend Art. It turns out all the victims are minimum holders like them. Unwillingly at first, the two detectives become involved in the investigation.

Trailer reminded me of Durarara!! for some reason... but comparisons aside, the synopsis sounds interesting, and the animation had style. The words 'game' and 'detective' always pique my curiosity too... definitely interested in this one!

Hoozuki no Reitetsu

Image

Genre: Comedy, Fantasy, Supernatural
Website: http://www.hozukino-reitetsu.com
Animation Studio: Wit Studio
Japanese Airdate: January 10, 2014
Seiyuu: Nagasako Takashi, Yasumoto Hiroki, Yusa Kouji
Director: Kaburaki Hiro (Kimi ni Todoke, Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun)
PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoRt7T4eOdU

(Original post by Summary:)
Hoozuki is the aide to the great king of Hell, King Enma. Calm and super-sadistic, Hoozuki tries to resolve the various problems in Hell, including a rampaging Momotarou and his companions. However, he also likes spending his free time on his hobbies, such as fawning over cute animals and raising "Goldfish Flowers."

The second TV anime from the studio that first brought us Attack on Titan. A dark comedy set in hell... I was sold on that alone, with the trailer only adding to my excitement. Should certainly be different!

Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha.

Image

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Supernatural
Website: http://inarikonkon.jp/
Animation Studio: Production IMS
Japanese Airdate: January 01, 2014
Seiyuu: Ohzora Naomi, Kuwashima Houko, Hara Sayuri
Director: Takahashi Tooru (Majutsushi Orphen: Revenge)
PV:

(Original post by Summary:)
Fushimi Inari is a shy, not-so-bright middle school girl living in Kyoto's Fushimi ward. She has a crush on her classmate Tanbabashi, but cannot express her feelings. One day, as thanks for helping a fox pup, the deity Ukanomitamanokami grants her the ability to change her form.

Can't say I've had much luck with these slow-paced, shinto deity-themed series in the past, they usually end up boring me for some reason. :s: Maybe the rom-com spin will make this one more interesting, guess we'll have to wait and see.

Mahou Sensou

Image

Genre: Action, Fantasy, Magic
Website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/mahosen/
Animation Studio: Madhouse
Japanese Airdate: January 10, 2014
Seiyuu: Touyama Nao, Seto Asami, Miyano Mamoru
Director: Sato Yuzo (Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor, Gokusen)
PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h24ESqimig0

(Original post by Summary:)
In this modern magic action story, Takeshi Nanase is an ordinary high school boy who has a somewhat dark past. Due to certain circumstances, he formed a "fake" couple with his childhood friend Kurumi Isoshima, but otherwise, he lives a normal life. However, one day, he comes across a girl named Mui Aiba, in a uniform he has never seen before, collapsed on the school campus. This encounters changes Takeshi's destiny completely. Mui tells Takeshi that she is a magician, and she apologizes, for she turned Takeshi into a magician, too. What Takeshi once knew as one world is actually two — the world where magicians live and the world where humans live.

Generic name, generic synopsis, and its a light novel adaptation. Not a fantastic first impression. Trailer doesn't give much away either. Not all bad, though - I'll be putting my faith in the director, since he's worked on some great anime in the past!

Maken-Ki! Two

Image

Genre: Action, Ecchi, Martial Arts
Website: http://maken-ki-two.com
Animation Studio: XEBEC
Japanese Airdate: January 15, 2014
Seiyuu: Nomizu Iori, Yahagi Sayuri, Sh
ìtaya Noriko
Director: Kaneko Hiraku (Seikon no Qwaser, Manyuu Hikenchou)
PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xahtNsbv2E

(Original post by Summary:)
Second season of Maken-Ki!.

Boobs boobs boobs boobs boobs.

...no.

Mikakunin de Shinkoukei

Image

Genre: Comedy, 4-koma, Seinen
Website: http://mikakunin.jp
Animation Studio: Dogakobo
Japanese Airdate: January 9, 2014
Seiyuu: Hatano Wataru, Yoshida Yuri, Matsui Eriko
Director: Fujiwara Yoshiyuki (GJ-bu)
PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5F14JWnYSwM

(Original post by Summary:)
The comedy revolves around Kobeni Yonomori, who on her 16th birthday suddenly has a young man with little presence named Hakuya Mitsumine and his younger sister Mashiro appear in front of her. It turns out that Hakuya is her fiancee, and Mashiro is her future sister-in-law. The three (and Konbeni’s older sister Benio) start living together underneath the same roof, and hilarious happenings occur.

Looks and sounds more or less like every other Dogakobo comedy series for the last few years... not necessarily a bad thing as long as it makes me laugh, but there's a lot of other comedy shows to compete with this season.

Nisekoi

Image

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Shounen
Website: http://www.nisekoi.jp
Animation Studio: Shaft
Japanese Airdate: January 11, 2014
Seiyuu: Uchiyama Kouki, Hanazawa Kana, Touyama Nao
Director: Shinbou Akiyuki (Negima!?, [email protected])
PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BynyUgjNPEs

(Original post by Summary:)
As a child, Raku Ichijo made a secret promise with his childhood sweetheart, keeping a pendant as a memento while his love took the key. He dreams of one day meeting his past love, but years later, reality smashes his hopes when Chitoge Kirisaki accidentally knees him in the face...

Though Raku's a normal high schooler, his family heads the notorious yakuza gang the Shuei-Gumi faction! And he's dragged into family affairs when he's forced into a relationship with Chitoge, the daughter of a rival gang's boss!

Despite their constant spats, the two somehow fool everyone with their false relationship. Raku then discovers that Chitoge has a mysterious key from her past, which she can't remember... Plus, two other girls appear with keys as well—Kosaki Onodera and Marika Tachibana!

Caught in the midst of this love maelstrom, even more complications arise for Raku when his class decides on Romeo and Juliet as the class's play for the school festival. Can the two false lovebirds pull off the impossible and make the play a success?

Can't remember the last time Shaft/Shinbou produced a series I actually liked. :hmmmm2: Think I've gotten tired of their usual wacky animation and direction tricks... The synopsis sounds half decent, though.

Nobunaga the Fool

Image

Genre: Action, Mecha, Sci-Fi
Website: http://www.nobunaga.tv/
Animation Studio: Satelight
Japanese Airdate: January 5, 2014
Seiyuu: Miyano Mamoru, Sugita Tomokazu, Hikasa Yoko
Director: Sato Hidekazu (Fortune Quest L, Spring and Chaos)
PV:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1jXxiLDn1k

(Original post by Summary:)
The Western Planet and the Eastern Planet. Once upon a time, the two sides were bound by the "Dragon Pulse" spanning the heavens.
The civilization that once had prospered has now turned to a tale of dreams, as the inextinguishable flames of war tear the realm asunder. The two planets remain engulfed in endless battles.
The return of the super technology known as "sacred treasures" could revolutionize the world order, but no one knows of them but one person — a "heretical girl."
A girl from the Western Panet, Jeanne Kaguya d'Arc, saw heavenly visions of the birth of a "Star Messiah" who will save the world. She embarks on a journey to the Eastern Planet with Leonardo da Vinci, "the one who observes the world." They come across the heretic of the Eastern Planet and "the greatest fool of the day," Oda Nobunaga.

Jeanne d'Arc, Leonardo da Vinci and Nobunaga Oda. In mechs. Also saw Julius Caesar mentioned in the supporting cast on ANN. Sounds fun to me, though the CGI animation looked a bit dubious in places in the trailer IMO.

Nobunagun

Image

Genre: Action, Shounen, Supernatural
Website: http://www.vap.co.jp/nobunagun/
Animation Studio: Bridge
Japanese Airdate: January 5, 2014
Seiyuu: Suzuki Tatsuhisa, Ishida Akira, Muto Shiori
Director: Kondo Nobuhiro (Kekko Kamen :awesome:, Sgt. Frog)
PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-kKY-qMews

(Original post by Summary:)
Shio Ogura is a Japanese high school student, who is visiting Taiwan on a school trip when she is suddenly attacked by monsters. Agents known as "E-Gene Holders" from the government agency DOGOO also arrive, who wield weapons infused with the spirits of historical figures. Shio is revealed to also be an E-Gene Holder when the soul of Oda Nobunaga awakens after she tries to rescue a friend.

...because you can never have too much Nobunaga Oda in one season! They even share the same airdate. :giggle: This one has the potential to be absolutely hilarious, and is one of my most anticipated non-sequel shows.

Noragami

Image

Genre: Action, Adventure, Shounen
Website: http://noragami-anime.net
Animation Studio: Bones
Japanese Airdate: January 5, 2014
Seiyuu: Uchida Maaya, Kaji Yuki, Kamiya Hiroshi
Director: Tamura Koutarou
PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjSZ7X-kvi0

(Original post by Summary:)
At the boundary between this realm and another, there live eight million gods, dead spirits who serve the gods, and other assorted spirits who help and meddle in the affairs of humans. A sweet middle school girl named Hiyori Iki has been enduring bullying from her classmates, and she goes to the restroom by herself to cry. Scrawled on the bathroom wall is a phone number and the message, "I solve your troubles."

After Hiyori calls the number, she encounters a homeless, unemployed figure who proclaims himself a "god." Crude, unpredictable, and worthless, he does not answer people's prayers and no one acknowledges him. However, he has one sole power, the ability to cut all who pass between this world and the next.

Undecided on this one. Nothing about it seems particularly original (though at least the guy is a god as opposed to yet another maoh), but Bones anime usually have decent animation and action scenes.

Nourin

Image

Genre: Comedy, Romance, School
Website: http://www.no-rin.tv
Animation Studio: SILVER LINK
Japanese Airdate: January 11, 2014
Seiyuu: Asanuma Shintaro, Tamura Yukari, Hanazawa Kana
Director: Oonuma Shin (Kokoro Connect, ef: A Tale of Memories.)
PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYtwYijnZxk

(Original post by Summary:)
When the national idol Kusakabe Yuka suddenly retired from the entertainment business, it shocked the world and it devastated teenager Hata Kosaku. Kosaku was Yuka's biggest fan and her departure left him depressed. His classmates at the Tamo Agriculture School finally are able to get him to leave his room and attend his class, but to everyone's amazement, Kusakabe Yuka (her stage name) comes into the class under the name Kinoshìta Ringo as a transfer student. Kosaku realizes he has the once in a lifetime opportunity to get to personally know his dream girl and, together with his group of friends, try to find out why she is here and become closer than just classmates.

Another series set in an Agriculture-focused school? Thankfully the focus of this one doesn't seem to be on educating the viewer about farming, as I can't see any other anime doing a better job of that than Gin no Saji. :p:

Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga.

Image

Genre: Comedy, Romance, Shounen
Website: http://www.fujimishobo.co.jp/sp/201108imocho/
Animation Studio: Project No.9
Japanese Airdate: January 4, 2014
Seiyuu: Majima Junji, Hashimoto Chinami, Ogura Yui
Director: Hata Hiroyuki
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FHYSTyNOhc

(Original post by Summary:)
In the romance comedy, a girl named Mitsuki Kanzaki lives with her step-brother Yuya after her mother remarries. One day, Mitsuki is possessed by the self-proclaimed spirit of a young girl, Hiyori Kotobuki. Hiyori (in Mitsuki's body) must fall in love with Yuya to move towards the "Gates of Heaven."

It's not incest because they're not blood-relatives, and because she's been possessed by someone who isn't his sister!!!... Meh, I can't even be bothered saying anything negative about this.

Saki: Zenkoku-hen

Image

Genre: Game, School, Slice of Life
Website: http://www.saki-anime.com
Animation Studio: Studio Gokumi
Japanese Airdate: January 5, 2014
Seiyuu: Ueda Kana, Kugimiya Rie, Koshimizu Ami
Director: Ono Manabu (A-Channel, Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon)
PV:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzDAGtq5t2g

(Original post by Summary:)
Sequel to the Saki series covering the Inter High School Mahjong Championships.

As much as I liked the original series, the Achiha-hen spinoff did a good job killing off any enthusiasm I might have otherwise had for a continuation of the original story... I'll give it a chance, but I don't have high hopes.

Sakura Trick

Image

Genre: Romance, Shoujo-ai, Slice of Life
Website: http://www.tbs.co.jp/anime/sakura/
Animation Studio: Studio DEEN
Japanese Airdate: January 9, 2014
Seiyuu: Iguchi Yuka, Tomatsu Haruka, Toda Megumi
Director: Ishikura, Kenichi (Da Capo III, Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆)
PV:

(Original post by Summary:)
The story revolves around Haruka and Yuu, two girls who go to a high school that is slated to be shut down in three years.

To share something special between them, they share a kiss, and their relationship deepens from that moment onward.

The manga is apparently a 4-koma comedy, so I'm not expecting a serious romantic drama full of character development here. Should be okay, as long as the studio doesn't end it on a cliffhanger and then not bother making a sequel...

Seitokai Yakuindomo*

Image

Genre: Comedy, School, Shounen
Website: http://www.starchild.co.jp/special/seitokai/
Animation Studio: GoHands
Japanese Airdate: January 4, 2014
Seiyuu: Hikasa Youko, Yahagi Sayuri, Satou Satomi
Director:
PV:

(Original post by Summary:)
The second season of Seitokai Yakuindomo.

I skipped the first series after sampling only the first episode, which I felt was just trying to be as crude as possible for the sake of it, as opposed to actually being funny. Have since heard good things, so I *might* try and marathon the original before this sequel airs. :beard:

Sekai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda

Image

Genre: Action, Fantasy, Ecchi
Website: http://www.sekaiseifuku-zzz.com
Animation Studio: A-1 Pictures
Japanese Airdate: January 12, 2014
Seiyuu: Kuno Misaki, Hanae Natsuki, Toriumi Kousuke
Director: Okamura Tensai (Wolf's Rain, Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha)
PV:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM91wjj1sO4

(Original post by Summary:)
The story follows Zvezda, a secret society bent on glorious world conquest—and led by a little girl.

I wonder just how serious this will be – will they really be trying to take over the world, or will it end up being Sunred with lolis? :p: Either way could be fun, as the director has a lot of experience with action series.

SoniAni: Super Sonico The Animation

Image

Genre: Comedy, Slice of life, Ecchi
Website: http://soniani.jp
Animation Studio: White Fox
Japanese Airdate: January 2014
Seiyuu: Yamamoto Ayano, Gotou Mai, Ozaki Mami
Director: Kawamura Kenichi
PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG3_nPTiBdQ

(Original post by Summary:)
Super Sonico is the mascot girl of the "Nitro Super Sonic" events held by Nitroplus. In her back story, she is already a photoshoot model, game character, and a musician, even as she studies as a college student.

Don't really see much point in watching such a generic looking series when I'm not even familiar with the event or mascot it's based on. :dontknow:

Space☆Dandy

Image

Genre: Comedy, Sci-Fi, Space
Website: http://space-dandy.com
Animation Studio: Bones
Japanese Airdate: January 5, 2014
Seiyuu: Suwabe Junichi, Satake Uki, Yoshino Hiroyuki
Director: Watanabe Shinichiro (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo)
PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o480GrsQGmo

(Original post by Summary:)
The lead character Dandy is an alien hunter and the "dandiest man in space." The anime is set far in the future where people have gone to the far reaches of the universe. Dandy is searching for aliens that no one has found before with his robot partner QT.

The director alone is enough to grab my interest, but the synopsis sounds good too! Makes me wonder why exactly he's searching for new aliens, though – maybe to prove he's more 'dandy' than them? :p:

Strange+

Image

Genre: Comedy, Shoujo, Slice of Life
Website: http://www.dreamcreation.co.jp/stpl/
Animation Studio: Seven
Japanese Airdate: January 2014
Seiyuu: Fukuyama Jun, Seki Tomokazu, Okiayu Ryoutarou
Director: Nishikawa Takashi (Otome Dori, Koikishi Purely☆Kiss: The Animation)
PV:

(Original post by Summary:)
The story begins with a teenaged boy named Kou who came to the slums to search for Takumi, his missing big brother who ran away years ago. The brothers reunite, and it turns out that Takumi now heads the Mikuni Detective Agency. Kou wants to bring Takumi back, but he doesn't want go back home himself. So, he starts working at the agency, doing odds and ends.

Series about detectives always intrigue me, though I've seen very few that I actually thought were good. :s: Am also a little intrigued by the director, seeing as this is his first non-hentai work. :giggle:

Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta

Image

Genre: Adventure, Drama, Romance
Website: http://koiuta.tv
Animation Studio: TMS Entertainment
Japanese Airdate: January 6, 2014
Seiyuu: Taketatsu Ayana, Hanae Natsuki, Yuki Aoi
Director: Suzuki Toshimasa (Rinne no Lagrange, Heroic Age)
PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=di7MujUMMRw

(Original post by Summary:)
This is a tale of a prince who lost everything leaves for a journey with no guarantee of returning to his hometown safely. With hatred and revenge in his mind, he met several people that taught him about friendship...and love.

Have to admit I was a little disappointed when I found out this wasn't going to be a TV remake of The Princess and the Pilot, as early synopses suggested it would be, but anything set in the same world is worth a look IMO.

Wake Up, Girls!

Image

Genre: Music, Slice of Life, Idols
Website: http://wakeupgirls.jp
Animation Studio: Ordet
Japanese Airdate: January 10, 2014
Seiyuu: Nagano Airi, Yamashì
ta Nanami, Okuno Kaya
Director: Yamamoto Yutaka, Saviour of Anime (Fractale, Kannagi)
PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AE6wxzvUuto

(Original post by Summary:)
Green Leaves Entertainment is a tiny production company on the verge of going out of business in Sendai, the biggest city in Japan's northeastern Tohoku region. The agency once managed the careers of magicians, photo idols, fortune-tellers, and other entertainers, but its last remaining client finally quit. In danger of having zero talent (literally), the president Tange hatches an idea of producing an idol group. On the brash president's orders, the dissatisfied manager Matsuda heads out to scout raw talent. Matsuda makes a fateful encounter with a certain girl….

Meh. Just meh.

Witch Craft Works

Image

Genre: Action, Fantasy, Supernatural
Website: http://www.witch-cw-anime.jp
Animation Studio: J. C. Staff
Japanese Airdate: January 5, 2013
Seiyuu: Kobayashi Yuusuke, Seto Asami, Izawa Shiori
Director: Mizushima Tsutomu (xxxHOLiC, Another)
PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lltx5nJQzoE

(Original post by Summary:)
Takamiya Honoka is a regular student whose only problem seems to be that he sits next to Kagari Ayaka, the school's #1 beauty. They have never spoken to each other before and any small interaction between them immediately results in her fanclub beating him. Yet when a falling part of the school's building is about to send him to the afterlife, it's Kagari that comes to his rescue. Only... she's dressed as a witch, carrying him in her arms and floating on a broom?! Kagari tells him it is her mission to protect him and that now she can finally protect him openly rather than undercover.

I like the character designs... but that's about it. The trailer didn't do much to make it stand out either. The director has a good track record with comedy series, though, so if it does focus more on that than action then it might be good for a laugh.

Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil

Image

Genre: Magic
Website: http://wizardbarristers.com
Animation Studio: Arms
Japanese Airdate: January 13, 2013
Seiyuu: Tanabe Rui, Wakamoto Norio, Inoue Marina
Director: Umetsu Yasuomi (Galilei Donna, Mezzo DSA)
PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DU5Aa0BAs8

(Original post by Summary:)
The story takes place in Tokyo in 2018, where normal humans and those who can use magic coexist. As a result, there are laws against using magic, and a "magic courtroom" exists to preside over lawsuits regarding magic use. In these cases, "Benmashi" or wizard barristers defend those who use magic. The anime follows Cecil, the youngest Benmashi in history, and her associates as they defend clients in these cases.

The name made me laugh, the synopsis piqued my curiosity, the voice cast more or less guaranteed I'd be watching it anyway... but it was the trailer for this one that really sold it for me. Definitely on my list.

Z/X IGNITION

Image

Genre: Game, Sci-Fi, Fantasy
Website: http://zxignition.tv
Animation Studio: Nippon Ichi Software
Japanese Airdate: January 9, 2014
Seiyuu: Nakamura Yuuichi, Sawashiro Miyuki, Uchida Maaya
Director: Yamaguchi Yuuji (Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito, Fate/stay night)
PV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLG4HRDfiFM

(Original post by Summary:)
The story is set in the not-so-distant future. Five "Black Points" suddenly appeared around the world as portals to parallel worlds. Immediately after, strange creatures began their invasion from these portals. These creatures are the inhabitants of five worlds — the same worlds in different timeframes. In order to ensure their own future timeframe survives, each of the five invasion forces battle to wipe the other future timeframes out. The key is one card-shaped device.

And finally... is this a card game anime? It'd be a pretty lame one if you only get one card. :p: Again, seems a bit generic, but the character designs aren't bad.

I was dreading this season to be honest but it looks a lot better than I thought nothing stands out as a mega watch (besides Chuunibyou which I need to rush asap!) but a lot more interest for me than last season.

Shall create a list shortly...

Never actually watched a series as it has aired, and I can't say this season is going to change that It would have to really interest me.

I'm so stoked for Saki right now! . I hope Crunchyroll picks it up . Whilst I haven't yet completed the side-story, I watch the qualifier finals over and over again

Buddy complex looks pretty good.

I like it when people do a bad plot and own it with comedy.

Looked at that pic for chunnibuyu(?) and got excited, thinking it was an oregairu s2. Awwwwww

Chuunibyou 2 is my most anticipated show. Only just finished the first one & absolutely loved it so glad I won't have to wait too long for the sequel! Only worry is the ending to season one was pretty damn good so I hope this second season is as good and doesn't ruin that.

Aside from that I think I'm definitely watching Space Dandy & would also like to watch Tonari no Seki-kun. Wizard Barristers is a maybe (assuming there is a decent amount of over the top courtroom action; if the barrister thing is just a gimmick I'll drop it right away) & so is Sekai Seifuku.

Thanks for putting this together, AJ. Always appreciated.

As usual, I'll probably end up watching the first episode or two of almost everything that's airing and will see what piques my interest. The one thing I've learnt over the years is that something always surprises and exceeds my expectations. In fact, even during this current season.

However, you can always ascertain how good something will be based upon the studio/staff behind it, source material and the PV, so there's a few that I'm interested in:

Nisekoi
Witch Craft Works
Nobunaga the Fool
Nobunagun
Hamatora
Saki Zenkoku-hen
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon
Toaru Hikuushi e no Koiuta
Pupa
Space Dandy
Wizard Barristers
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga ****ai! (S2)
Mahou Sensou
Noragami
Gin no Saji

I can finally get stuck in after making my list:

D-Frag!
Nourin
Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga.
Sakura Trick
Wake Up, Girls!

I wanna watch but haven't seen the first seasons:
Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shìtai! Ren
Gin no Saji 2nd Season

I've got some serious catch up to play as i've not finished last season and all these first seasons of series

Once again good work AJ. Lots of series and your impressions are as helpful as always.

Nobunaga the Fool :indiff: because of that synopsis :mmm:
