Husky Fridge.

(Not sure if this is the right Sub Forum)
Yesterday I bought one of those Husky Coolers/Fridges. Its been plugged in for about 24hrs now and is still only about 4 degreesC below room temp.

The specs say 15degreesC below ambient temp – minimum 10 degrees.

It uses thermoelectric technology – how long do these things take to cool to 5degrees. Could mine be broken? I have set the thermostat to high which the book claims will give you the coldest temp.

Does anyone own 1 of these? How long did it take to cool? I was hoping to get it down to 1degreeC.

I've got a Husky KuleKube if that's the one you mean? Mine's currently set on 2/3 on the thermostat on the rear, and all the drinks inside it are freezing cold. If I set it to 3/3, the drinks inside actually freeze solid. Took mine about a day to get to the cold temperature - if yours doesn't start cooling soon then i'd take it back....

Thanks for the reply.

The one I have is the same as in this pic

My room temp is 20.7degrees ( I have the air con on) The cooler is 15.6degrees. Thats about 5degrees lower for 24hrs worth of cooling.

I think your model must be more powerful. My thermostat is on the inside.

This is the one I have. Similar to yours, and i'd expect yours to be able to cool to considerably lower temperatures than it is currently. It's 26 degrees in my room at the moment and all the drinks are still ice cold...

LOL.

Can you both check the specs of your coolers. Mine is on the inside printed on a label. Mine say 15 degrees below ambient. (minimum of 10degrees. ) - what does the minimum 10 mean? minimum 10 degrees? Or 10 below ambient? If that's the case mine is working and all my cokes are nice and warm at 17degrees, what a waste of money.

It actually comes with a big bright yellow warning card: This Husky FASCU cooler operates on thermoelectric technology………. Hence it may take longer to cool down than a conventional refrigerator.

Only problem is, it does not say how long!

(Flipping thing, my room is 26.7 and cooler is 17.6 – how long till is 5degrees?)

Do you not remember how long it took yours to cool down? I think you should never unplug it.

Yours says 'A real refrigerator capable of cooling down to 1 degree C'

I dont think ours are the same tech. Does yours contain refrigerant. Mine does not. i think yours is a fridge and mines a cooler. Big difference.

Ah, that may be why then. Yes, mine does have refrigerant and a compressor, so is an actual fridge.

mine is an actual fridge... it says food and dairy safe on it too... hope it works because i'm hoping to not use the fridge at uni next year lol

mine is like the stella one but its a budweiser 1!!

ok. I going to return mine.

Can you tell me how much you paid for yours and where you got it from? The shops selling them are terrible and give you no info as to whether they are fridges coolers. Or someone with a web site add.

You'd be able to tell from the weight alone. The phasechange coolers (the one you want) will be WAY heavier & bulkyer than the peltier ones (the one you already have) because of the heavy compressor. They'll probs also be way more expensive as well lol. You'll know when you've found one.

True. Sadly, it’s hard to shop like that over the net. But the one I bought was in person and I did find it very light - but I thought it would do the job anyway.

I have been to the Husky web site to try and identify which models are which (fridge/coolers) and you get nothing. They even say we will not baffle you with science, probably so we buy their rubbish that cools to only 18degrees.

If you go to this website you can see the entire range and click on 'Technical Info' to get loads of information. My model is now discontinued though, but I got it from Tesco's website. This seems to be the closest one to mine that is currently available.
