Coursework-based English Literature degrees.

Hiya,
I absolutely love English Literature and would like to study it at degree level. However, I do so much better in coursework than exams - where the time pressure means that I never perform as well as I could.
Just wondering if anyone knows of any literature courses that are based mostly on continuous assessment? Also, is there any quicker way of finding out how degree courses are assessed than going through each uni prospectus/website one by one? If anyone knows of one it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot!

Bristol is the obvious answer - top 10 University, always high in research, league tables etc, Russel group, red brick - and only one exam in three years of English

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. I seem to recall someone telling me that Exeter was almost all coursework in third year, as well.

I don't think there's a quicker way of telling except from going through one by one. Cambridge is certainly not the place if you don't like compulsory exams...you can dodge quite a lot of the coursework, but not the exams.

Apart from the first year, where everything is compulsory, you choose every module you do at Cardiff, and the vast majority of those are essassed by essays, so if you wanted to it would be perfectly easy to have a degree based solely on coursework (1st year doesn't count towards the end result I don't think). Plus you pretty much get to tailor the course to your interests- one of the major reasons I chose it.

At York it is possible to do a degree based solely on coursework, my friend was really pleased when she found out because she doesn't like exams.

At King's, the first year is mostly exam-assessed, but after that, you can choose modules that only have coursework. I will only have three exams next year.

What about English joint honours?

York - one exam in 3 years...

Queen Mary, university of london...is probably your best option. The first year has exams. But second and third year is all courswork.

Depends on the other subject. You won't have to do the one English exam (for the foreign language module) unless you want to, but most other degrees do involve exams so chances are you'll have to do some.

Bristol and York are the two obvious ones. Both are really excellent courses as well. I'm at Bristol, but very nearly almost went to York. It was touch and go.

Loughborough is 100% coursework. Might make a good insurance. xx
