I am doing this play too :I i hate English!
But you mainly have to talk about socialist views and about community compared to Mr Birling. The inspector is there to teach the Birlings and the audience a lesson about morality
Is he a human? could be seen as god like?

I did a whole 3 paged essay on this! Consider the idea that the inspector has a multifunctional role and that he's a portrayal of a collective conscious.

    I remember doing this!
I think I mentioned the Inspector communicating socialist views, holding a position of authority, etc. I talked about the stage directions and how Priestley describes the Inspector's actions in them.

I also compared him to the biblical prophets (sounds a bit odd, I know haha) because of the way that he came to warn the Birlings about their actions. I supported this by saying that Priestley evokes religious imagery, using a quote the Inspector says around the end about 'fire and blood and anguish'. ^_^
