I have about 6 lectures a week and 3 tutorials, generally:
Monday 1 lecture
Tuesday 1 lecture
Wednesday 1 lecture (sometimes a tutorial)
Thursday 1 lecture 1-2 tutorials
Friday 1-2 lectures 1 tutorial

Timetables change each term though.

First year preferably
Timetables vary enormously between courses. Arts & Humanities have roughly 10-12 hours a week in first year. But then Science have roughly 16-25 & nursing & medicine a near full timetable. In the first semester of first year mine looked something like this for International Relations:

Monday- 12-1, 1-2 & 5-6/7
Tuesday- off
Wed- 12-1
Thurs- 10-11, 11-12 and 1-2
Fri- 2-3

I'm a first year medic, it's typically like this:

Monday:
12-1: Plenary
2-4: Placement

Tuesday:
9-11: PBL
2-4: Clinical Skills

Wednesday: 12-1- Plenary

Thursday:

9-12- Life Sciences
12-1: Plenary
2-4: Clinical Skills

Friday:

9-12: Life Sciences
12-1: Plenary
2-4: Workshop

In reality, it's a two week time table, with a slightly different structure each week (we would never have clinical skills and life sciences in the same week).

Monday: 9-10:30, 1-3, 3:30- 4:30 (though its changing to 4-5 after christmas)
Tuesday: 9-11, 11:30- 2, 2-4
Wednesday: off
Thursday: 9-11
Friday: off

it definitely depends on what type of course you're doing. I know some people that only have around 10 hours of contact a week, and others who have nearer 18.

I had around 10-15 hours of contact time in my first year. I'm in my last year now and only have 6 hours a week, although independent study time more than makes up for it!
