January Internal A Level Mocks

My sixth form college is organising internal exams in all subjects in January, in place of the January exams that we would have had before they were abolished. I’m not sure if they’re attempting to scare us into revising, or if this is really true, but are mock / internal exam results ever sent off to universities when we apply, or used to help decide whether or not to give a student a place?
