Commercial Real Property Problem Question

Hello,

I have a Commercial Real Property question to answer for my coursework and was wondering if anyone could help me. In the question a lease was granted in 1995. I know that this means that it is an 'old' tenancy (as it wasn't granted before 1st Jan 1996). However, the lease has been assigned in 2013. Does this mean that the rules relating to new tenancies or old tenancies are looked at for the liability for rent of the assignee?

Old rules, the new tenant has been assigned the lease granted in 1995. If instead of assigning, the current tenant granted a sub-lease then that would be covered by the new rules.
