If it's for you, take the first letter of your name and have everyone come as sometihng starting with that, i.e. Hayley: Harry Potter, Hippy, Hula Girl, that kinda thing. If it's for someone else, use their first letter of their name. Or you could get people to come with something beginning with their name.

I think a 60's theme would bo cool, or Grease, or famous Movie Stars

It's not 'fancy dress' as such, but forcing people to wear one colour is quite amusing, especially if you play up how mysterious it all is. A friend and I got everyone to wear blue, and it was rather successful, particularly considering the levels of completely unneccesary hair dye and blue food.
Blue food colouring makes everyone hyper as well :p:

Traffic Light Party? Red = taken, yellow = cautious, green = on the pull...

Rubik's Cube - Everyone starts off wearing three colours from teh rubiks cube, the object is to be wearing just one through swopping clothing by the end of the night.

Sainsbury's Basics party - ell, we had one at uni and it worked...

Cocktail party - everyone must come dressed by a costume inspired by a cocktail. E.g. Tequila sunrise. Sex on the beach and Screaming Orgasm may be harder...

Heroes and Villains. Self Explanatory.

DISNEY PARTY! Everyone comes dressed as a Disney character.

Musicals party - Everyone comesdressed as a character from a musical.

60s party, 70s party, 80s party...

Music Party! Everyone comes as a popstar from the past.
