i use ambre solaire, spf as high as i can get it, at least 45 for the middle east. soltan by boots is also good. basically just get as strong an spf as you can that is waterproof, obviously there are lots of brands, just pick one!

Even if you get a waterproof one, you should still reapply it regularly
I'm not sure it'll stop you getting tanned. For that you need... I dunno, an umbrella.

Easy solution, only go outside when it's light?

use soltan. it's the only 5 star protection and you can get lots of extra special stuff with it.. bug repellant, waterproofness, etc.
get a high factor and keep reapplying.

unfortunately not, no.
I have just got back from Corfu i used spf 30 suncream and i still tanned and still got slightly burnt. I have been to Israel which is in the middle east, i never tanned there because we always went to the beach early in the morning.

To not get tanned, only go to the beach at like 7am, use the highest spf suncream you can find, you could even use stuff for albino people and try and stay in the shade, however your face and arms will still get tanned unless your planning to stay inside betwween 10am and 7pm every day.

There is no realistic way to avoid your face tanning, you cant stay in the shade the whole time. It is very hot in the middle east, much hotter then all the ussual tourist destinations such as corfu and ibiza.

If you burn easily, Nivea are selling a factor 50 spray lotion which might be good for the first few days. Otherwise I'd go for their factor 30. Although not completely waterproof, I really am not convinced any sunscreen is, so I'd make sure you reapply after swimming/sweating a lot. Better to be safe than sorry!

Just a question don't answer if you don't want...but why don't you want to get tanned? I can understand using a high protection to care for your skin and not get burned, but why do you not want a tan at all?

i was gonna say the same thing bubblebee  tanning can often be a good thing! and yes, no suncream is totally waterproof so always apply some as soon as u leave the pool/sea.

The easiest way would be to cover up I imagine. Failing that, have you thought about using a kids sunscreen? They tend to go up to 50 and 60 SPF and tend to be pretty hardcore as they're designed for kids running in and out of the water and playing in sand etc- they're probably the best ones you can get. Also make sure you reapply really often.

RE Soltan- I read an article in the paper last week where they tested a load of sunscreens. Soltan (and others which I can't remember) turned out as a much lower SPF than was claimed on the bottle, Ambre Solaire and a few others came out higher. No idea how they did the test or how accurate it was but just so you know.

I just went to egypt and i used factor 40 and didn't burn - it was nivea (the blue bottle with the yellow cap top) and its water resistant and got 5star uvas- and as long as you put it on often enough im sure you wont burn. If you're in the middle east im sorry but you're very very likely to tan - no matter how much sun cream you put on...
If I could offer you one tip for the future... sunscreen would be it!

So before you do throw away some old bank statements, I'd recommend going to boots. They have some pretty good sunscreen there.
Btw, Soltan and stuff have been studied and I hope you realise that their protection is in some cases only 1/3 what they claim on the lable. When I go somewhere hot I use really expensive stuff (for instance I am studying in singapore for a year) and its £40 a bottle for the day long stuff, but the normal stuff is only about £18 a bottle. Definately get expensive stuff if you are that bad as the cheap stuff will only not work and you will put more and more on and sufficate your skin and get rashes and stuff. dont make that mistake.

You shouldn't worry about getting a tan. Your body is the greatest instrument you'll ever own. Don't be afraid of what others might think about it.

If you have brown skin, you'll have more natural resistance to UVA and UVB already, so go you! But yes, get kids' stuff, you can get factor 40, also don't forget you can wear a wide brimmed hat, long but loose clothes and stay inside at midday-3pm.

Hope you have fun!

Goin to the middle east, its gona be baking hot, i need some super strong sunscreen because i dont want to get tanned. It has to be water proof as ill probably be at the beach.. any suggestions for something strong?

If I were you Id be more worried about protecting my skin from damage from the ultraviolet rays from the sun than getting a tan. Personally, I think Garnier's Ambre Solaire is very good. They have quite high factor protection and they really are not lying when they say that their products are non-greasy or sticky and the Moisturising Portecting Milk is absorbed quickly bythe skin (also as it says on the bottle). At superdrug there is now a buy one get one free deal with this product (might be with all sun protection products).
