I have no idea how many calories I'm eating

Hey guys. I'd like to lose a little bit of weight, but I'm so clueless! I have NO idea how many calories I eat in a day. Lifestyle wise, I don't do too much (bit of walking, low intensity cardio etc). For the last month I've kept a list of everything I've eaten, in some vain attempt to realise what I'm eating, but I have no idea whether it's too much/too little etc. Here are a couple of days from my list:

Day 1
1 bowl minstrone soup
1 bowl sugar-free museli with semi-skimmed milk
1 weetabix with semi-skimmed milk
Celery sticks
Low-fat homous
2 glasses water
2 cans diet coke

Day 2
Mango
1.5 cans diet coke
1 bowl sugar-free museli with semi-skimmed milk
2 glasses water
Medium egg noodles
Soy sauce
1/2 of a tortilla wrap

Day 3
2 weetabixs with semi-skimmed milk
3 glasses of water
1 hot chocolate (made with water, not milk)
Lettuce
Sweetcorn

Day 4
2 weetabixs with semi-skimmed milk
2 cans diet coke
1 glass water
Sweetcorn
Mushroom
Broccoli
1 corn on the cob
Tofu steak

Day 5
1.5 bottles water
1 bowl sugar-free museli with semi-skimmed milk
2 cans diet coke
Minced beef with chili con carne sauce
Mango
Yellow pepper
Tomato
Cucumber
1/2 of a pitta bread

That's fairly typical. Roughly, how much am I eating?
Btw, I'm 20, 5"6, and weigh about 9 stone, though I'd like to get down to 8ish (before anyone says that's too low, I have a really slim build and I just want to lose my tummy and tone up!

That is a lot less than I eat... but you're shorter, and I'm not trying to lose weight. So I'd say that was about right. I'm no health expert though.
You're not eating nearly enough. If you go to fitday.com, it will calculate how many calories you're eating.
That's what I thought, but the OP says they're 5'6'', trying to lose weight, and of a really slim build...
Their bmi still puts them at the slimmer edge of normal.

Even if you need to lose weight, eating like:

Day 3
2 weetabixs with semi-skimmed milk
3 glasses of water
1 hot chocolate (made with water, not milk)
Lettuce
Sweetcorn

this is not the way to do it.
No, but day 5 sounds about right. It depends on appetite I guess. Can't eat more than your stomach will hold.

That was a bit of an odd day though, think I was too busy to think about food. The days I've listed where I've eaten more are more typical.
Day 5 sounds almost right. I'd pay attention more to the types of food though, not how much you eat. There's very little meat or fruit/vegetables or bread/rice/pasta. Try and vary your foods a bit more. And definitely eat more of them. But not too much more.

I LOVE this website! So helpful! Thanks  Seems like the amount of calories I eat a day varies a lot (anywhere between 500-1100)

Eat more (about 2500 cals a day) and do HIT.

that itenary looks fairly inadequate regardless of whether or not you're trying to lose weight in my opinion. I see no dinner at all on day 1 for example..

Right, well, that website has shown me (after putting in everything I've eaten in the past 3 weeks), that what I eat varies HUGELY from 300 calories, up to 1000. Is that going to be messing with my metabolism?

Anyway, I'm going to aim to eat around 800 calories a day, because like I say, I'm slim built, quite short, and want to lose around a stone, and my job means I have a pretty inactive lifestyle, so I don't really see how else to do it!

If you want advice, listen to what we are saying.

If you are female, eat about 2000 calories.
If you are male, eat about 2500 calories.

Simple as.

You say you are of a slim build, so Im guessing you want to lose that excess fat round your stomach. If you don't give your body enough food you will shrivel up (won't just lose your belly). Do HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), this will aim to burn off your fat and not your muscle. I'd also recommend lifting some weights to add a bit more muscle.
According to the other website, you should eat 1468.9 calories a day in order to lose a pound a week...

I don't think losing much more than a pound a week is very healthy.

Well yeah, but I don't think person really understand what their aims are. They want to lose their tummy and tone up. If they are 9 stone, they definetely don't need to lose any weight, but do more cardio.

I don't count calories, so I wouldn't be entirely sure, but 800 calories sounds like you'd be starving yourself. Surely it would make more sense to eat more, if not the full 2000, then at least 1500 calories, and do some form of exercise when you've finished work.

Because, like I've said, to me, surviving on 800 calories a day just does not sound healthy.

I do need to tone up my tummy, 'cos that's my only real problem area, but before I tone it up, I need to lose the fat off of it first. It's not massive, but it's quite big, and out of proportion with the rest of me. I guess that's just where I put my weight on, and eating this many calories doesn't leave me feeling hungry, so I didn't see the point of upping my calorie intake. Do you think this would help me lose more weight?

Well fat on your tummy can be reduced with HIIT.
