As-Salam alikum Muhiba!
How are you?
Wa Alaikum as Salaam Ayaz. I'm fine alhamdullilah and yourself?
Ok…I’ve asked my parents today about our little dilemma and I think I understand now. However, I’ve also e-mailed Dr.Ahmed ibn Saiffudin…an excellent Sheik that hosts a TV show called Islam Q & A on Saudi Channel 2, so we’ll have to wait and see what he says.
From what I understand now, the word ‘Heavens’ is misused in English. When Allah(swt) says in the Quran ‘Samaawat wal Ardh’ literally translating to ‘Skies and Earth’ but often (wrongly) translated to ‘Heavens and Earth’- in that sense there are 7 Heavens or more correctly Skies. These are the 7 skies that the Prophet(saws) visited during Israa and Mi’raaj and met the Prophets. During his trip, he was also given a glimpse of the actual Heavens and Hells and the beauty and horrors that lie within them.
But when the Quran is discussing the concept of Heaven and Hell, there are 8 Heavens and 7 Hells as already mentioned by brother Justin. This is the actual Paradise that we are striving for.
I hope that makes sense.
Yes, Rashid, we were wrong. I got it checked my self, and I found out that I was confused between 'Skies' and 'Heavens'. I read it in a book (The spectiacle of Death). It explained everything that we (Inshallah) will be blessed with in Paradise.
