It's one of, if not the, most boring films I've ever watched, yet it's incredibly highly rated and number 55 on the imdb top 250. I have no idea why

Didn't find it boring. Kane's a great character to watch and has a similarly great story to be told. And for a film on early 1940s it's ahead of it time.
Is it overrated? Sure (to me at least) but almost every 'greatest of all time' will be to the majority of viewers.

I thought it was fantastic. A monumental debut that was both paradoxically autobiographical and hauntingly prescient. Inestimably influential, too. Therefore one for the movie buffs though, maybe.

For it's time it was probably great.
Nowadays its one you have to say is the greatest film ever just so you get your film pretentiousness card back.

I saw it a while back and liked it. The visuals in particular, the way Kane deteriorated and that big tantrum at the end. Pretty good.

I love old films like Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Grapes of Wrath, City Lights............

I have it on DVD and need to watch it at some point... I'm getting the impression though it is very dated though.
