Does anyone who applied last year remember when chambers stopped putting vacancies on the Gateway? It seems like there are a lot of chambers which aren't advertising yet - obviously some of them might just not be taking pupils this time, but I'd be surprised if so many had decided not to...

Does anyone know if there are any chambers which are likely not to interview you if you interviewed there last year?????
I'm thinking of reapplying to a few family law sets, 1 Hare Court, 1 Crown Office Row and 42 Bedford Row and was wondering whether any of them had any policies regarding reapplication?

Vacancies are placed on the gateway year round. There is heavy emphasis on advertising now because many non-gateway sets follow the gateway timetable but, some non-gateway sets recruit outside the timetable but, still advertise on the gateway as they are obliged to by BSB rules.

I get that - I'm talking specifically about chambers which recruit through the Gateway but don't appear to have put their vacancies up yet

A few seemed to go up last year quite late, but most will now be up there.

A lot of chambers appear to have left the Gateway this year, some only making that decision relatively recently including 23 Essex St, 3 Raymond Buildings, Furnival... It may be that you're waiting for adverts that won't appear.

They have to advertise them on the Gateway even if they're not using the Gateway Application System. The BSB recently sent out an email reminding all chambers/barristers of the obligation to do this so I imagine they're getting "serious" about it.

BC is to indicate that it's a Bar Council question, I think. It's not next to the pink Chambers specific questions.
