I've stopped losing weight,why?

heres the deal, i weigh 9 and half stone, 5'9, male. ive lost about a stone in 4/5 weeks but i still have a bit of a tum. but these last 2 weeks i have not lost a single bloody pound! it depressed me last week and now im just so down(i just weighed myself again this morning). and i want to know why? becuase i eat 1400 calories a day, and do 3 hours on the exercise bike everyday burning according to the stupid machine 1200 calories( i do it in 2 slots of 1 and a half hours). ive really stuck to it and it worked great at first but now nothing, all this hard work and no results. im on the verge of just quitting now, is this going to continue?:frown:
btw, its summer hols, hence why i have the time for 3 hrs of exercise a day:p:

wtf. too light.

you're bodies probably in conservation mode.
because youve now reached a point where youve reached a "plateu" if you will in progress. you basically need to lower your calorie intake slighlty more now or exercise for slighlty longer while keeping the number of calories the same. or lowercalorie intake and increase time spent exercising to have an effect. hope that makes sense

no trust me, i know it seems light, but im naturaly a very slim build and i have a tummy so there is obviously room to lose weight.
Well when you do a lot of exercise after a while you hit a stage where you stop burning off a lot of fat because
1) your body doesn't need to lose the fat, it needs it (and by the sounds of your height/weight you need to STOP trying to lose any more fat)
and 2) Your'e actually now developing more muscle tone, which weighs more than fat, so though your figure will change/look trimmer you won't neccaserily weigh less.

But dude I'd say calm down with the exercise thing a bit, it's all going very fast- make it gradual it's more healthy for your body

a plateu? whats that? why has it happened? how long will it last? i do 3 hours a day of exercise,i cannot bare to do any more! so should i drop down to 1000? soz about all the questions.

muscle weighs more than fat and so exercising will mean you burn fat and build muscle, so you probably wont get lighter

No don't eat less calories or do any more exercise, that advice is useful but only if you start of slowly to begin with, which you haven't. You're already doing waaaaayyy too much!

Don't eat any less calories, 1400 calories a day is way too low for any man, even if you are trying to lose weight. Your body's metabolism must be shutting down to try to conserve fat because it thinks its starving. Up the calories to about 2000 and keep exercising, but don't go crazy with it, you'll get results soon enough.

i have nothing else to do, so i might as well exercise. my thigns def do feel more toned and exercise is much easier to do then it was 6 weeks ago. ive also stopped smoking(6 months ago, cold turkey). thanks for the advice, it just really knocks you down when that scale hasnt budged.

well if exercise is easy, then doing it wont help, do something more challenging
maybe swap one of your 1 1/2 hour slots with some resistance exercises.

what type of exercises are resistance exercises?

do more strenuous exercise. more muscle mass will increase your metabolism, so you will burn off more energy, even in your sleep.

im not sure if you want to lose weight or specifically fat. if just fat, then definitely play sports, anything that will tire you out (if you can do 90 minutes straight of an activity, its not going to help burn off the last amounts of fat)

you seem very light for a guy your height anyway. how low a fat percentage are you trying to achieve?

Then build up weight through muscle mass, don't lose it. Why would you want to weigh less than 9.5 stone, which is already very light? What weight do you want to be? Eating 1400 calories a day really isn't a good thing.

well becuase i have abit of a tummy. and if i want to lose it, i have to lose weight. its not that i want to weigh less, i dont have a target weight or anything, i just want rid of the tum! and logic tells me i have to lose weight in order to get rid of the tum.
