you will get the most out of a gym.

Look up hammer curls, concentration curls, preacher curls. If you want bigger biceps, you'll need to be increasing the weight of your dumbells. You should be doing 3 sets of 6-8 reps at a heavy weight, whereby you can complete the set but push yourself.
deos doing press-ups increase bicep size

i believe press-ups work your triceps more so, as well as your pectoral muscles.

You're biceps really benefit from compound movements such as chin-ups and bent-over rows. Too many curls are a waste of time. Get a proper full-body routine; not a beach body routine.

I'm really tempted to put that in my sig.

Hardly. Isolation movements are generally more beneficial for biceps.

I don't actually see what's so funny about that to be perfectly honest; it was just a question!

Yes, but i still believe one would be better off doing compound movements for obvious reasons.

You would be better off doing compound movements, what's the point of having huge biceps when you can't lift anything because your back's too weak? Get a pullup bar, one of the ones that fits over the doorframe and doesn't need drilling and start lifting yourself, it'll hit your biceps better than dumbell curls.

at least someone agrees with me.

Completely agree with you, I hate those guys that could bench press 200kg but couldn't pull themselves up 2/3 times because they want to look good on the beach so only work the chest, abs and biceps. Get a proper workout, it'll be better for you in the long run.
What muscles do pull-ups affect?
My preferred routine is to do bicep curls with a straight bar (I find it harder than the EZ bar and feel it more on the biceps), and I also do chin ups (underhand grip).

I think most people in the gym overtrain biceps because they get stimulated as part of a number of compound movements anyway, and you see guys there doing bicep curls or on that sit down bicep machine for hour after hour.

I'd rather spend my time on compound exercises and build the whole body from the core than focus on nailing the biceps

Biceps, grip musles in the wrist, lats and traps in your upper back. Also the lower back/abs stabilise the movement so they're working too.

And different muscles will be affected more/less by which pull up grip you use.

Am I missing these 'obvious' things then?

What are you, a 12 year old twig? Try to refrain from talking about things you are clueless about.
