Appendicitus? or what...uti? Please give me advice/help?!

A bit of background... early Feb this year i woke up with an odd pain in my lower right side...it mainly hurt when pressed and walking. Went to docs that afternoon, i had a raised temperature and had been peeing often (no burning/urgency or anything though) and my urine dipsticktest was fine, he was very puzzled, sent me to hospital and they did blood test (raised WBCs) and THEY said i had a uti. gave me antibitics and in 4 days i was hunkydory again...

Last sunday i had a similar pain in the same place again, but only when i put my arms above my head and leant back. This remained the same for the week (i played tennis on saterday and wednesday and it especially hurt when i served so i assumed i had pulled and internal muscle or something...if thats possible!) Yesterday the pain occasionally throbbed when i was sitting doing nothing and there is a spot near my hip which if i press it feels like a bruise inside (gland maybe ?). i also went to the toilet more frequently than usual, on saterday, but not now...but again no pain or burning or urgency. Could this be another uti? appendicitis? or something else? ive got a docs appt tomorrow morning...but any replies would be muchly appreciated

erm it could be grumbling but i would get straight to the doctors and demand he check for appendicitus because that sounds around where i had my appendix out. they told me at the time i had a water infection and it got to a point i could barely move and i had a temperature so my mum took me to A and E

thing it i still am able to do all the things im able to do...eg work a 9 hour shift today, with a bit of pain very occasionally...only really hurts if i press it now....it does feel a bit swollen as well

i would get it checked to be on the safe side hun because you don't know what could happen out of the blue plus its still discomfort. tbh if i was in your position id go to a and e as it's swollen.

From what I've been told by people who have had appendicitus it's a pain worse than child birth. If this is the degree of pain you are experiencing then I'd get myself to A&E ASAP!

I'm glad the OP has created this topic because in the past year I've had the same pain in my bottom right hand side. I haven't had it for a few months but when I last had it I was in agony. I really hate making a fuss about things, even when I'm in real pain, so I just assumed it was wind or something and left it alone. I then got it again a couple of months later and didn't go to the doctor about it that time either. If your appendix is dodgy then when the pain is present are there always other symptoms? Also, does it always burst and create problems if the pain is ignored? I did go through a stage a while back where I kept getting cystitis so I don't know whether that's connected, but surely pain in that area would imply it's a problem with the appendix? My mum had to have her appendix out when she was young, I don't know if it runs in the family at all.

Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread! It's just that I've had a similar experience and I'm sure these questions may apply to the OP.

i sound like you elbowfan! i hate to make a big fuss of things (mainly coz i hate people fussing over me - makes me more worried!) I know if i had apendicitis i would be in 'doubled over agony pain' which is what my mates who have had it said. It only twinges occasionaly and feels like a bruise if i poke it. Hmmm A&E...ive had this over a week now so surely i can wait another day...its not noticably swollen, it just feels like a bit of a lump on the painful bit when i press...

P.S. Thanks for the replies everyone...making me feel a bit calmer!

I genuinely couldnt walk when I had it. Had a huge temperature and made one half day in school before retiring to bed, deathly pale and hot but shivering. Mum took me to the doctors then! I'd say if it doesn't stop you doing most things then even if it is appendicitus they wont remove it unless it gets much worse. Sorry, thats not much help!

Could you have kidney stones? They cause swellings, because the kidneys dont function 100% so you retain water.

When I had it, I had an unbearable pain in my side for about 24 hours and a really high temperature and started throwing up.....wasn't nice. Then did a maths exam 36 hours after having it out.....great fun!
it sounds like it could be a whole range of things, from kidney problems, to perhaps another UTI (though i'm shaky on their first diagnosis, but hey i'm not a doctor so i can't really contest it) or it could be appendicitis, this time around. i'm glad you've made an appointment and, to the person above - MAKE ONE, now. if you have appendicitis and it goes untreated, your appendix could perforate ("explode") leading to several icky circumstances. OR it could block your intestines OR it could cause sepsis. if it's not appendicitis, still go to your GP. there is never any sense in 'not making a fuss'.

anyway.. back to the OP - i must say that if you have already had a UTI, perhaps because of certain behaviours (not peeing before&after sex, non-cotton underwear, etc), it's more likely that you'll get another one.

thanks so much for the replies guys! im pretty sure its not appendicitis - im certainly up and walking and not bent double in pain. Its not hurting so much i want to take pills, but enough to annoy me and get me worried :frown: yeah kidney problems perhaps :frown: who knows...i guess ill find out tomorrow after a worrying sleep tonight ! thanks everyone!!

To the previous reply, yeah i dont think this is a uti coz i dont have any symptoms of one...hmm :frown: *worries*
well, either way, you're getting it checked which is the main thing. it could, actually, just be "irritable bowel syndrome" (which shouldn't be called a syndrome at all, in my honest opinion) - but you will see after your checkup. good luck!

When I had appendicitis, I had rather a dull pain that lasted for a long time - days, even over a period of weeks. It became worse very quickly and then and only then were they able to diagnose it.

Apparently it's very difficult to diagnose, so I'd press them for answers to be sure.
Ironically while googling i found this thread i have Appendicitus now !

If you have Appendicitus shouldn't u be in Hospital ?
Appendicitis is the most excruciating pain, I have ever experienced. You can't breathe and the slightest touch, hurts like hell! Your body temperature goes up, and you can't walk. Actually, after i had it removed..I couldn't walk for 2 days! and my best friend, thought I had wind! haha

I had appendisitus about 6 bouts weeks ago and had my appendix removed. Every six months I used to have bad pains around my appendix but it went after a day or two and it was just about bearable. Sometimes your body can sort the problem out. However 6 weeks ago the pain got excruciating, I was on the floor at tesco lol. Therefore i went to A and E and it was appendisitus. So the op may have appendisitus but a weak form of it. Go doctors or if the pain gets bad hospital.
