i love any drink with vodka in it... but i have to spend loadz (5-6 doubles) to get drunk

A cheapo dirty bottle of wine, smack it down you before you go out. A litre of 14% gets you going.

A cheap bottle of vino is a good tactic. Or some dirt chap cider.
You could always take some painkillers or antibiotics, when you have a drink after that it ****s you up royally.

and maybe kill you. lovely.
Just don't eat anything before hand, and drink on an empty stomach. The alcohol will get absorbed a lot faster.
