Well said. If you HAD to have 6-7A*s, there would be a lot fewer interviews in December each year than there actually are.

At the open day they said they only interview in Trinity around 50 of the 80/90 applicants. They did also say that a few applicants get shuffled off to other colleges before interview.

From Rupert Gatti, at open day: he said that they expect 85% in AS results as particular 90+ in maths. But having said this, i guess he's talking about the ususal 4 AS people. I did 7, and i'm kinda hoping they will consider this when i get some very dodgy UMS scores come August!

I can almost guarantee you that they would rather you did 3 or 4 subjects and scored 90%+ in all of them, than took twice as many and only scored ~75%. They are looking for depth of knowledge, not breadth.

yer i know that, but at the same time in the relevant/subjects which provide best prep for econ, i am expecting to get 90+. It's more design and chemisty where i'll probably get a low B, and these are not exactly vital for econ. But similarly, they say they want you to show good time management and initiative, and teaching youself an A Level is a good way to show this.
Also, i feel that the difference in some subjects (such as Biology in my case) between getting 80 and 90 is down to exam technique more than anything, and i think they would probably prefer that i improve my essay skills teaching myself history and doing a range of subjects than spending hours gaining an extra 10 UMS learning the exact terminology to answer the question on respiration in mammals to Edexcel's exact specifications.
I know i probably have spread myself too thinly this year, and next year i'm dropping atleast one subject (design-waste of time) and may well not study history A2. I'll see how it goes.

Yer, I liked him. Seemed like the kinda guy i could get on with. Took me ages to fathom out the accent though. I'm so pleased he eventually mentioned being from New Zealand, otherwise I would have been irritated by not knowing what his accent was for weeks!
