Do you need a car for Social Work BA?

Hello,

I've applied to MMU, Salford, UCLan, Northumbria and Plymouth and was wondering whether students at those universities are required to have a car for getting to placements? Also, even if not strictly required please could you tell me whether it would make much of a difference not having one?

Thanks!
I don't think it's a requirement st any uni and certainly in the first year I imagine you could survive without one.

However in years 2 and 3 when you're on 80/100 day placements, I think you might struggle without one. It depends where your placements are of course, but my mum did a DipSW as a practicing SW some years ago and ended up on a mental health placement as she ordinarily worked in child protection, and it was about 40 miles away from home. She couldn't have done it without a car. Plus you definitely need one to work once you qualify.
