What do you mean by beneficial?

Do you mean; will it get me a place? The answer is no.
Do you mean; will I learn something? The answer is yes.

It is not a substitute for life, work, work ex or voluntary work.
It is not a font of hidden information, you will not hear anything you cannot find on google or the forums.
It is not cheap.

It is expensive.
It is an experience.
It is... erm...

Its a really big scam, no joke.

If you do decide to go, you'll understand. "If you're interested in buying the stethoscope upgrade, its only £19.99!". "You must buy a lab coat and a standard stethoscope..." and then you barely use it. There are also talks from various universities abroad asking you to spend lots of money to study at their respective schools. The main speaker is completely ridiculous and over the top....

Look, I thought it was enjoyable because of the people I met, not because of the event. EVERYone knows its a waste of money because if you really want to know about medicine, there are much better and cheaper one day courses at medical schools, or just get some work experience.

na its not about me, a lad i know used to go regualry to medlink and he used to say it was good or something. He did his A2's a year back and didnt get the grades for medicine so resat the year.

Yes, in that you have talks by a number of interesting and informative speakers. But it's nothing you couldn't pick up on here or by doctor-stalking for a while.

It's really not worth the astronomical price they charge. I could think of a lot of more productive uses for the money. Burning it for fuel for one. Plus you have to buy (or appropriate from school) a lab coat and stethoscope for a couple of hours of swishing around corners (a la Green Wing), which makes it stupidly expensive.

... this guy went regularly to Medlink? Like, more than once?

I live 10 minutes from the uni, so when I went I decided to stay at home after the first night, as my accomodation sucked. Therefore, it was an even bigger waste of money.

Went to both medlink and medsim, in my opinion, a waste of time as well as money. As probably mentioned more of the "university student experience" than anything else. The other information can be found from the Royal College websites and NHS as well as asking here. I would rather recommend getting a subscription of Student BMJ and use it for travel towards work experience as if you live far away, can be a pain.
Talk to your GP or hospital consultant at your work experience, much more useful.
Have a look round to geniune open days i.e. The ROyal College of Phyisicians, which was on the 8th July. (obviously missed it) but there are other events, i think.
Waste of money and waste of time.
I know give me your money and you can camp in my back garden and i'll read you the university prospectuses in a foreign accent.

(Sorry about the sarcasm but you get my drift!!)

It's hardly their fault that you chose to be unsociable.

Not a medically qualified one... A quick look at the GMC register tells you that
