Waxing VS Veet VS Shaving

Right, I dont want to start off another debate about whether a guy prefers smooth hairlessness or whether a trim will suffice, or whether it makes girls look pre puberty or WHATEVER. Really I dont care about that so dont bring it up.

However I am going on holiday on friday and want to know what would be more appropriate for the bikini area.

Wax - pain. Would it still be red on friday/saturday if i did it tomorrow? Does it encourage/discourage ingrowns?

Veet - doesnt always get rid of all the hair in my opinion, can see it beneath the skin

Shaving - Ingrowns common, doesnt last long, stubble.

What are peoples thoughts on this?

I agree with the OP's analysis of each one and can't really say I have a preference but I shave just because it's easiest, cheapest, etc

I'm a tight-fisted wimp, so I shave
I'd wax. Have it done at a salon, it's way more painful if you do it yourself.

The only thing that really works for me is Veet.

This is mostly, I suppose, 'cause I have really sensitive skin. Shaving is ok the first day, but after that I am in extreme pain and have a horrible rash for a few days. I always seem to get ingrowns afterwards, too.

Waxing is just too painful and leaves me red for several days.

I've never had a problem with irritation with depilatories, and they seem to keep the hair away for a satisfying amount of time. I actually like Nair better than Veet, but I don't know if that's sold in the UK.

If you dislike Veet because it doesn't get rid of all the hair, I'd go for a professional wax. It shouldn't be red for more than a few hours/overnight. It definitely discourages ingrowns, too. You should be good to go if your skin isn't as temperamental as mine!

Have a good holiday!

for going on holiday i always wax. i got mine done two weeks ago and it still hasn't started to grow back yet. i find it doesn't really hurt, its just the waiting for them to rip it off that makes it worse, cos you tense up, then it hurts more.

home waxing kits are good if you have the nerve, but i built up the courage to do one side, then cried for an hour cos it hurt so much! couldn't bring myself to do the other - you also have to be carefull about bruising if you do it yourself. with regards to ingrown hairs, you can get special creams for that which you apply regularly after waxing - works pretty well.

veet is ok for every now and then when you're not too fussed about it, but i hate the effect it has, and always leaves bit still there... not to mention the smell which is rank!

and shaving! EUGH i've only shaved once and i swore i'd never do it again. regrowth is possibly the most uncomfortable thing ever.

SO agree with that! Waxing always hurted me, then i went somewhere and they had a TV - was too interested in Neighbours to realise what was going on, lol, and then next thing i know it was over with!!

I want to wax, but I'm too scared

But I think I should start that now, but I usually shave.

ha ha i know, i hate it when they try and talk to you cos i know that its coming. i just stare at a wall and try to think of something else. it normally works, but failing that i normally just laugh my way through the pain!

and stop being wimps about waxing, its really not as bad as you'd imagine it to be! and its so much more beneficial - and comfortable than shaving x

Err, slight contradiction here...

no. i said its only bad if you tense up, which i tend to do - thus laugh through it. times when i haven't, i've been fine and it doesn't really hurt at all - anyone who's waxed frequently will say exactly the same thing.

Argh I wasnt brave enough to try the home waxing kits (I tried the strips on my legs and it was agony so not holding much hope for home bikini waxing) so ive just used the Veet.

Its not really removed it to the root, it looks kind of stubbly  It would probably have looked better if I shaved it. Next time Im getting a salon wax methinks. Does it look completely smooth when you get this done? Do you not have any knickers on? Wouldnt be too comfortable with that...

lol you made me laugh

when you get waxed your skin is completely smooth after cos obv. they've just ripped out all the hair! everywhere i've been for a wax you keep your knickers on, just pull them to the side. my friends have been to places where you have to take them off, but this is rare, and also depends on how much you want off. if you want everything off, then they do tend to ask you to take your knickers off. don't get embarrased anyway, its something they do on a daily basis!
