Why is the world getting fatter and fatter?

Be honest it's all we ar at the moment, were getting fatter and fatter. And......! who cares, the only thing we can do about it, is to really have willpower. hey stop ice cream vans ye! Children will still eat something else. ven though it isn't the parents fault, children should just be taught from a young age. Banning things isn't the issue. What u think?

its not just that people eat too much rubbish (though that is the majority of the problem)

its the fact that sometimes even the most basic food is laden with sugar, fat, colourings etc

so even if people do think they are "eating healthily" if they looked hard at the ingredients, theyd realise its still full of junk

even the peace of steak you eat, the cow will have been fed on hormones etc..which has made people bigger, such as even shoe sizes are much larger today than they were before, and its rare that you find children smaller than their parents..that has a lot to do with hormones in food IMO

The world does seem to be getting fatter, but i dont think it really matters. There are still plent of slim people around. If people wanna get fat and die young its up to them, just like smokers really. Obviously not all fat people are because they eat to much, these are the people that really need help. The fatties that eat to much will need some kind of a shock before they really do anything, apart from a few.

TEH MCDONALDS!!!!1111!!

Seriously though, lack of exercise. The lack of care put into making our food. The fact that junk food is far cheaper than healthy food in this country, ie you'd struggle to make a salad for under £5 yet you can buy ready meals for a pound. The shocking cutdown of PE within schools these days. Etc...

Ice-cream vans aren't the problem. It's the fat kids eating ice-cream bought from ice-cream vans that are the problem.

It's like blaming Burger King for making you fat.

It's always the parent's fault, if they raised their kids properly, they wouldn't eat trash and become obese.

You're right, banning things isn't the issue. Banning the fatties from eating fat is the issue.

Laziness etc is the main cause. Also the range of food available. Children can get their hands on lots of sugar and stuff like that relatively cheaply. Busy parents feed kids stuff out of the freezer, which is usually processed rubbish full of salt, fat or sugar. Some people are obsessed with health and everything, but it isn't as contagious as a love of food. All the food about can be pretty addictive with the sweetners and stuff. I love coca cola for instance, and it is the reason why I am not as fit as I could be. I'm not obese or anything, barely overweight, it is just that I don't do much sport and coke makes my stomach a little tubby.

I'd just like to highlight that it's mainly the G7/8 countries that are getting fatter. The rest are dying WOOHHH it feels good to be over-nurished.

We live in Big Rock Candy Mountain (Schlaraffenland in German) this can be seen by the increase in so called "civilisation illnesses" such as diabetes, obesity, cardial problems, pancreatitis and many more.
Imagine in old times (or in some parts of the world even now) people had to run after the deer/hare or whatever and shoot it, then cart it home (if they had got it), work hard to make the flesh edible. Collect wood for a fire, maybe get water from far away. Or think of potaoes: dig them up and take them home... Anyway they had lots of excercise and little food, especially not too high in non complex carbohydrates such as sugar....

Fattie bashing eh?

People drink sugary drinks between meals. Water is what you need to quench thirst, not Sprite or Irn-Bru.

That fast food is cheaper is a myth. A complete fabrication. Any student should know that ready meals aren't cheaper. It's that people are too lazy to put time into preparing their food.

It's not so much a lack of exercise. Exercise burns off relatively few calories. It's people are gluttons and can't control themselves.

There are many factors which affect people's diet and lifestyle choices!

Economic factors - not everyone can afford to eat a healthy diet. Fruit and vegetables are actually quite expensive whereas a big multipack of crisps is usually cheaper.

Family influence - Yes, some of you are right the way you are brought up and the values and norms you have will affect your lifestyle choices.

Social factors - what friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, etc eat may affect what you eat.

And many more too!

However it isn't always due to the parents so it's not very nice to assume that! Anyway, i feel that preventative measures would be a good way of influencing people's lifestyle choices, particularly health promotion at a very young age. As for the people who are already rather large, promoting exercise and a healthy diet would be good, and allowing them to afford it, etc.

Kids were a lot more diciplined in the past plus they couldn't afford a lot of food most of them, but today its soo different everyone is lazier lol. Food is supposed to be for survival really not for leisure.

Speak for yourself. I'm a well toned sex machine. I should also add that I don't eat any fruit or vegetables. Maybe I just have a fast metabolism and am the standard everyone should strive for?
The world is getting fatter simply because people are getting lazier everyday.

The world is getting fatter because of the invention of TV, Computers, Mcdonalds, cars, etc...

Once my brother told me, laziness is the reason why people invented all these things that can substitute the need of ourselves working!

(don't know if the last sentence make sense)

You are truly an idiot. BEWARE, sitting at your computer is now fattening!!!!
Food is getting ****ter and ****ter.

Think about it. 200 years ago McDonald's didn't exist. People weren't told to "eat no more than 6g of salt a day *cue jingle*", but that didn't matter because everything was freshly prepared and there were no pizza deliveries or microwaveable double cheeseburgers or Subways. Seriously, anyone who makes food fresh themselves rather than going out to eat or taking it out of a box will lose weight. It's scary. Meat, vegetables, fruit, potatoes, rice, herbs, milk, and ingredients to make things like bread... you have pretty much all the food you're ever going to eat there, all in shops waiting to be bought, fresh and ready to be prepared, rather than waiting to be microwaved into a mush. That's healthy. You don't need to watch your fat or salt levels with that.
