Dieting.

Hi.

Basically, i'm about 11 stone and 5 foot in height. I am going on holiday to Tunisia with my boyfriend and his family in September and would like to get down to about 10 stone by then. I usually have good determination to lose weight but I have been out of work for a couple of months now so seem to have lost my willpower which is a shame. I really want to lose some more weight. If I can get down to about 10 stone 7 by my holiday then I will be happy. So that's half a stone to lose by September.

I CAN do it! I was wondering if there was anyone here who would be interested in chatting to me on msn to diet with me in a way. Where we both keep each other up to date on how our diets are going.

I think it would really push me and you if we both gave each other lots of support and advice.

Thanks.

Don't diet, exercise. Go for a jog every morning, play tennis/squash/football/rugby. The best way to lose weight isn't by starving yourself or eating a perticular type of food. The weather these days is perfect to lose some weight, so get out there and basically PLAY...just like you used to when you were four feet tall

Most people think of dieting as eating less. Don't; think of it was eating healthily!

Well I could do with losing a bit of weight. (I'm 11 1/2 stone, though I am male and about 6 ft tall). I don't think diet is the way. Exercise is the only way. Diet may make you lose some weight. But you will put it back on if you go back to your regular lifestyle.

11.5 Stone and 6ft would make you skinny. You need to pack on some muscle!

Yup I do. Not going to diet. Its just all the bad food I have eaten has given my a bit of a belly. I think I might put my summer holiday to use and get fit.

I think i know you're problem; you have skinny limbs, but have a beer belly? That is often the case (and i have it a little bit too).

Eat lots of protein, no junk, lift weights 3x a week, HIIT training (cardio) twice a week and you're set!

Exercise doesn't use up that many calories. A half hour walk will make no difference to you.

You need to get the right balance of excercise and healthy eating. You should eat three healthy meals a day and only snack on healthy thinsg like fruit but allow yourself ocassional snakcks and excercise about 3-5 times a week. An a half hour walk is good, just combine it with more energetic cardio training, like running cycling or swimming.

That's wrong. For a start: No snacking. It's not good for you, regardless of what you eat.

3-5 times a week? Walking? For 30 mins? You should be walking further than that every day anyway.

no, but if you speed it up to a jog and do it 3 times a week then it will.

90 minutes of jogging with no change in calorie intake will make almost no difference.

Ideally, one should eat 5 or 6 smaller meals, which is kinda like snacking.

Personally, i see no problem with snacking on things like nuts during the day.

That depends on what your diet consists of, obviously if you have a problem with your diet, it needs to be fixed.

If possible you should do more then 90 minutes a week, on a good week i could do 6 hours, but it really depends because sometimes htis amount falls a lot.

If you do lots and lots of excersize and do not eat fatty food, you will have to eat a hell of a lot to stay fat.

Hi.

Thanks for everyones advice. I guess I used the wrong word really because i'm not dieting, I am just going to eat more healthily and do more exercise. I just call it a diet.

It's the exercise that I find hard to do because I get embarassed if I go our running on my own. I won't go swimming either because i'm too embarassed.

In my garage though we have got something like this: http://www.powerhouse-fitness.co.uk/store/product.asp?dept%5Fid=5&pf%5Fid=BH%5FFitness%5FR021%5FAscent%5FClimber

I just need to help my dad clear out the garage so we can set it up. I went on that 3 times a day last year and along with eating healthily, I lost a stone. So I really need to get back on it again.

i jog for an hour daily in a park and its done wonders to both my body and fitness levels in such a short time, yes it is sometimes really testing on my willpower to get up in the morning but if you really want to lose that weight, you'll find the motivation in you.
I found jogging really embarrassing to begin with but (im not saying everyone does) but i got over it, just have your mind on your goal and black out everything else...well except traffic of course:biggrin: , if you can really push yourself i think jogging is excellent. if its too much to begin with and you feel really unfit try just jogging until you're tired, no matter how short a distance that is then stop and walk (never stop)...then when your heart rate starts to go down begin jogging again. i did this to begin with and you'll find the distance you can jog before stopping increases quite fast...and you feel a real sense of achievment as you get fitter.

well there's my little praise for jogging done with  good luck with the exercise and diet, i myself am attempting a similar objective

That's not true at all. Exercising doesn't just burn calories while you do it, it raises your metabolism so you burn more calories at rest as well.
