I'm currently half way through fifth year and I'm studying English, French, German, Modern Studies and History (all at higher). I revise and my grades are alright; I'm getting mostly Bs. However, I struggle to get As in essays or tests and my prelims are starting soon, what can I do to improve because I really need As for the University course I want to do. My worst subjects are English (especially close reading) and German.

Any advice would be appreciated

Well for english if you read the comment section articles in the guardian everyday then you will improve huge amounts -I managed to increase my CR marks by ~10 each paper in 2 months by doing this!! You should also annoy your English teacher by constantly making them mark redrafts of your folio until you can get it really good, and therefore reduce the amount of pressure on you in the exam. Use this http://www.understandingstandards.or...s/introduction to compare your folio essays to the high marking ones and read the comments on the essays to see what the SQA like.
