I think I've had over 50 hours and not passed yet. I have had 3 different driving instructors though and two of them were crap and money grabbing.
Also having 2 hours lessons after I knew all the basics was overkill!
(I haven't really been able to drive parents cars that much)

Most people pass in less than 50 though!

well, i've been learning since january.
uhm started out with 2 lessons a week for about a month, then down to one.. so i don't know.. quite a few, but i think my insructor was money grabbing too, as for most of the time of my lessons, he was at home (like he told me to drive to his house so he could get something) or at the petrol station, or we were dropping off the previous pupil.

Wow you guys got stuck with some crappy instructors. After 10 hours I felt I could pass my test with a few extra hours, so I booked the test in October last year and the closest date available was February. I stopped driving for three months and then did 10 more hours before the test and felt confident during the test because I had a very good instructor who'd taught me to drive very well.

The average number of lessons is about 42 or something but just keep learning until you feel ready to drive on your own.

I felt ready to pass my test after about 15-18 hours. My instructor just took a while to teach me extra things which would help my to drive after I pass.

How longs a piece of string?

Anything between 0-200 hours of tuition + 0-500 hours of private practice.

Cant we have a sticky on how long/ how many lessons people took to pass?

30 hours of tuition across five months and a bit of practice at home

I was told average is 45 hours

Took me 20 (10 lessons)
Reply 11

Reply 13
Heh it took me ages to feel confident, around 80hrs say? But at least I passed first time with 5 minors, that's the important bit
Reply 14
I had 20 hours of lessons, and no private practise, passed 2nd time

how many hours did you all take to pass your driving test?

I've had only 5 hours of driving lessons with an instructor, and no practising on another car, and passed this Friday with only 1 minor!
But this shouldn't be compared cause I have a full method on how to pass your test with minimal hours of driving.
Thanks.
