Is it a good idea to study both English Literature and English Language at A Level? My son is hoping to do the Cambridge Pre-U in English Literature and Global Perspectives and Independent Research (assuming his GCSE grades are good enough). Initially he was going to combine it with two A Levels in Psychology and Chemistry, but now he is going off Chemistry and is thinking of replacing it with English Language. He really enjoys English and doesn't fancy any other options, but would it be too much English to do both Literature and Language? Does anyone know how Universities would view it?

Possibly English Lit, but also interested in a Psychology and Business joint honours course.

For English both Bristol and Sussex ask for A Levels "including A in English Literature or combined English Literature and Language" ie. possibly that the two separate A levels have too much overlap to be seen as two separate subjects - might be worth checking this with a few Unis by email.

Also worth checking admissions requirements for Business Studies - some might require Maths.

That's really interesting - thanks. I will check with a few Unis, that's a good idea.
