the pill - bad experiences

hey, just hoping for some opinions and personal experiences on this. i was put on microgynon by my gp about a month and a half ago to tackle horrific cramps. the pain has eased quite a bit, but i'm having awful periods of feeling really low, scared, on-edge and upset. i've heard that some women get quite depressed when taking microgynon, and am just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. how did you tackle it? are there any other forms of the pill that helped?

thanks

Just ask to be put on another pill! There are tonnes. If someone else says that another specific type of pill worked for them, it's meaningless, because it may or may not work for you. It's different for EVERYONE.

I, on the other hand, love Microgynon 30. I've had no side effects and I now have super light, painless, short, regular periods. And, of course, I'm not pregnant. It's brilliant, for me. Different pills for different folks...
we really cant tell you which will be best as every women acts differently to each pill. i got spots and migranes on microgynon so went on dianette and had near blood clots and moodswings but i've settled on it now and its much better. you'll just have to try different pills till you find the right one.

I've been on Microgynon for about 3 years and I get horrific period pains :frown: Should probably see the doctors!
Well i don't know if it was co-indecence but my ex had very bad mood swings when she went on it, then again she was an insecure person, but it only started her mood swings when she went on the pill.

microgynon is peace for me. No heavy dragging periods and less cramps. I guess i have my days where i feel down, but thats just me. No bursting out crying for no reason like ive heard some people doing.

I found microgynon was great for me, but found other pills gave me awful side effects (constant bleeding, depression and pain among other things). Microgynon is usually the first pill you're put on, so try others - as someone else said, there are tons and everyone reacts differently to them.

I gained ALOT of weight with microgynon, I'm on the implant now and everythings peachy... dunno what I'm gonna do when I get it taken out!
To OP - I've just moved on to Yasmin because I got the same problem, mood swings and the like. Never had any problemn with that beforehand. Also I put on a stone and went up a cup size.

Rather annoying actually, I just bought a load of new bras and now they don't fit. :frown:
I've had both good and bad effects with the pill.

Good It's really controlled & lightened my periods. Before I used to get really bad cramps but now my periods are shorter (although they were never that long in the first place) & less painful. I've also gone up a cup size & I'm not complaning!

Bad I've put on about half a stone. It's made me want to eat more. It's also exagurated my mood swings. I should probably think about changing the pill....

Oh & I'm on Cilest.

I was on microgynon (i think) for about a year. Gained weight, became really apathetic about everything and experienced lack of libido. It wrecked the best part of a long term relationship
whats a pill?
Birth Control
see if you are taking the pill to control periods, will it act as birth control as well? because I have heard it is a smaller dose than the normal pill, or does it work the same?

Nah thats a myth, im on regular contraception to control mine and a side effect of the pill is to control periods. But its still the same thing they prescribe to someone who just wants contraception.
ah, thankyou =]

I havent really had any bad experiences of being on the pill. I tend to eat a lot more now than I did when I wasnt taking it, but I havent put any weight on or anything like that.
Microgynon 30 is awful! It gave me the most awful moodswings, all the time, i'd go from being upset and wanting to cry at anything (often with no reason at all) to angry, jealous, etc. I tried it for 2 months but had to stop as the moodswings were just getting me down and not fair on me or those around me. just ask for a different pill. x

i just get a constant mild cramp all the time on microgynon, which kind of defeats the purpose as i was hoping for an easier pain-free ride. good thing is i've somehow managed to lose a massive 9kg on it in just over a month. crazy i know. but honestly the mood swings and constant dull ache isnt worth it. might go and ask for another pill. does the gp just give you any brand or do i have to ask for a specific type? xxxx
Well, I started Yasmin just over a week ago and I'm now on day 11 of my period...but that's pretty common for the first month, right? Your body getting used to the extra hormones?
