Hey all! I have to write a timeline as a piece of coursework for Uni. For this, we must select a legal principle, it should be a statement of the law which has formed the basis of a decision of the court, not an area of the law. The principle must have developed over a period of time but which is distinct in itself e.g. “the postal rule” but NOT “offer and acceptance”; the “lower courts must follow the legal principles determined by higher courts” and NOT “precedent”.

The example they gave us was 'It is unlawful to discriminate in employment or training on grounds of sexual orientation.' Could anyone give me any other examples that might be good to do? The idea of a legal principle confuses me!

When dividing assets upon divorce, the yardstick should be equality.

or

Children's Act 1989 s.1(1)
When a court determines any question w.r.t. :
(a) the upbringing of a child; or
(b) administration of a child's property of the application of any income arising from it, the child's welfare shall be the court's paramount consideration.
