Didn't get the job.

Hi everyone.

Well I was waiting for a call yesterday to see if I got a job that I went for an interview for on Tuesday but I never got a call so I presume I didn't get the job. :frown:

The woman said i'll hear from them on Friday so I thought that might of meant either way but obviously not. I really wanted this job so i'm really upset I didn't get it. I'm trying to think positively now but am finding it hard. Means i've got to get whatever the job agencies give me when I sign up to them on Monday. Oh well, it means being paid weekly so that's ok I guess. And it's only temporary.

I just hate starting somewhere new and being the new person. I'm quite nervous. :frown:

I really thought I was gonna get this job. :frown: Sorry for waffling on.

I know its difficult not to take it personally, but as veteran job hunters we've got to make sure we cope with rejection well - see it as an opportunity to improve.

If possible, be a bit cheeky and call the person who interviewed you and ask for a little feedback, and use this information to improve your technique.

The only consolation is that if you prepared well for the interview, and you felt you performed well, then the chances are you were rejected because you weren't a 'good fit' for the company, and that may work in your favour as if you'd been given a job in a company you were unsuitable for, you may have hated it!

Hey.

Well yes i did prepare well and researched the company cos I really wanted the job and I think it all went well. I'd be too embarassed to ring up and ask why I didnt get it but I do want to know why I didnt get it. :frown:

Hey sorry Karen,
where did u apply btw?

I applied to "Sally Hair & Beauty Supplies". It originates from America and is a huge company. It's mainly a wholesalers for salons really. But it was just a retail assistant position which I have nearly 4 years experience in.

There is a new store opening in my local town so I had to drive 30mins to another town for my interview. This always happens to me. :frown: Jobs I don't want, I get and jobs I do want, I don't get. :frown:

I'd suggest you call them up (I know its difficult, but I'm super super shy and I can manage it when pushed!) but try and find some way of saying that you're dissapointed you didn't get the position as you were really keen and had bucket loads of experience, and for them to keep you on file if a new vacancy becomes available. You never know...

It's a good idea to adopt a philosophical approach as a self-defence mechanism to cope with the disappointment and feeling of rejection when failing to get 'that job'.

First of all find out if you can why you didn't get it. Most reputable employers will give you some feedback in their letter of notification.

Secondly, remind yourself it's their loss and that there are other options available to you anyway.

Thirdly, it's not meant to be and that there is something better on the horizon for you in the near future.

Finally, move on and continue your search for the ideal job ^ that is waiting for you!

Thanks guys. I really dont think I can ring them up though. Might get a friend pretending to be me do it though. :P

But the thing is, I can't wait too much longer as I need to get some money for my holiday which is in September and plus my money is running out and need to keep some in the account for my car insurance that goes out every month not to mention my tax due in November. :frown:

Am so sorry you never got the job, it is really difficult to discover that you got rejected but don’t be bothered about it, and most importantly don’t give up because the door of options is always open

Meantime, you know best what your skills are. Your local government employment office, careers service or an agency specialising in both permanent and temporary work could help you find the best direction for your talents.

Sorry to hear Karen!! :frown: I know the feeling all too well. If it's any consolation to you- we all get a taste of job rejection at one point or another. I've been to countless amounts of job interviews and been rejected. At first it really bruised my ego, and at one point I got so depressed about my failed job interviews that I laid off my job search for about a month or so in order to recover. I started to doubt my own ability and believe that I wasn't good enough- not even for a lousy minimum wage job... and it really really got to me.

But then I came to realise that that kind of attitude was very unhealthy for me and it was only making me depressed by dwelling on it.

I've since, developed a more positive approach and when I do fail a job interview I just think,'' well, your loss'' and move on. Obviously it's not an amazingly effective way of tackling rejection but positive thinking is one step towards building self assurance.

You shouldn't let this stand in the way of applying for another job, still put your best foot forward. There's still plenty of time. Claim what you're entitled to. You could be eligible for JSA if you're not studying at college for more then 16 hours a week, so you'll have a little extra cash whilst you're searching for a job. The rate is £44.50 a week, I believe. It's not a lot but every little helps.

Anyway the chances are there's probably a greater opportunity awaiting you. At the end of the day your mental health is worth a lot more then a lousy job offer. Think forward.

Thanks Michelle. That was really nice.

Ive had job rejections before now but i really wanted this one. I really needed this one. Oh well. Thing is, my money is gonna run out soon, that's why it was so important.

I did ring up about claiming JSA but thought by the time all the forms and stuff gets done, i'll probably have a job.

No problem.

It took me about 1/2 weeks for my JSA claim to go through but your claim starts from they day you fill in the application form so if you do it today you'll get paid from today although not straight away (in arrears)

Trust me, do it. You've got nothing to lose, well, perhaps a few hours filling in forms. :p: But it's well worth the hassle. Once you get a job you cancel the claim straight away.

If you don't happen to find a job within the next two weeks (you probably will find a job) but you'll be £91.00 poorer.

Best of luck in your job search. Remember, positive thinking. Don't think about the other job

hi. so i fill in the forms and then i get paid money into my account that day?

how exactly does it work? what exactly do i have to do and what happens?

thanks x
Reply 13
No, you fill in a lot of forms and then wait several weeks while they assess you. If they assess you can get JSA, they pay you for the weeks you've been waiting.
Reply 14
oh so i dont get paid straight away?
Reply 15
is there any piont of going on JSA if you maybe plan to start studying in september?
Reply 16

If you're on summer holidays, you cannot get JSA anyway
