Having a Part-time job while at Imperial

Hi, I'm hoping to study Computing at Imperial (grades dependant) however, this year my parents won't be able to provide me with much financial support, so I was wondering whether holding a Part-time job would be possible along with a degree course.

If so, how many hours do you think would be possible per week and on what days? Also, do you think it would have a significant impact on my studying and social life?

i dunno how many hours and which days, its up to you really, i think maybe it's not such a good idea in the first year tho personally, i think it's enough work to get used to the new teaching style (i was so spoon fed) and workload and being away from home.

in second year i know lots of people with jobs, union bar, at imperial doing conferences and stuff, silver service type work is good because you can work when you want and how many times you want, i know some people who worked in earl's court exhibitions. so basically work can be quite flexible so you can do more when you think you have more time.

i think if you are careful it won't be detrimental to your social life/uni work.

maybe you should start looking for jobs after the first month or two. You want to enjoy the freshers experience and also find out how much your workload is, and discover a study pattern that works for you.

then, there's loads of things you can apply for - as fairycakes mentioned, within the college, there are posts in the Union (steward or bar staff), Conferences, Catering, etc etc. Lots of part time jobs exist around the area too - some people do flyering or work in local shops.
