I've recently started running again to get back into shape after a long time doing very little due to an injury, but whenever I run my muscles, mainly calfs, become unbearably tight after a very short distance. I stretch before and after the run, and have been stretching for a number of weeks throughout the day to try and loosen them anyway, with obviously very little / no success.

What else can I do to loosen them / lessen the pain so that I can actually do enough to challenge myself aerobically?
