Mum thinks i'm too skinny

I've got this problem, I've lost 10kgs in the past 10-12months and I still think I should lose a bit of weight but my mother thinks I am too skinny and I have changed a lot, I am not as fun as before (I live abroad so she sees me every once in a while for a few weeks) etc and she says she doesn't want me to lose any more weight. Also she tries to make me eat more, which really pisses me off because I worked so hard to lose this weight and I'm scared to get it all back, even if I accept not to lose more weight. I am between 1m75 and 1m78 tall and I weight around 58kg. Do you think I am anorexic or is my mother exagerating a bit like all mothers? I don't think I eat that little (my mother doesn't think I eat too little either but she's scared I'm just limit) but I accept that I am really exigent (?) with myself and I'm not happy if I am not perfect... What can I do to be happy with what I am? Any magic trics?

check your bmi score is ok (google for BMI calculation). if youre not too muscley (which i presume youre not) then its an ok (just ok, mind) way of telling how youre doing.

if it says underweight or something, see the doctor or something! if youre concerned that is.
as long as youre eating healthily and dont feel tired or badly affected by your diet its all good.

yes.

re-read what i wrote.

i said it was _just_ ok; it'll do for this situation (ie the OP has made no mention of being particularly athletic etc). obviously it should be taken with a pinch of salt...

58kg sounds fine to me for your height, just sorta comparing it to me and then taking into account the fact that you are female

I weigh about 50kg and am 157cm, so I wouldn't say you're too skinny. Mums have a way of unnecessarily worrying about their daughters, I think. She's probably concerned because it's a bit of a shock to her to see that you have lost so much.

Hi there,
It does sound a little underweight, but u could naturally be skinny, and low muscle tone etc etc many reasons.
The best way would be to go to a dietian, (your doctor will be able to refer you) that way, it well help u, and help to reasure ya mum!

My mum takes the same attitude with me, yet my Doctor happily tells her that I'm perfectly healthy. The ironic thing, is that when she was my age (and height), she weighed less than me!

Anyway, if you would like to know about your BMI score:
Using height of 1m75, gives a BMI of 17.8
Using height of 1m78, gives a BMI of 18.3

Generally, a BMI score of less than 18.5 indicates someone to be underweight. As they said above, this must be taken with a pinch of salt, but I would recommend that with this result you should go see your Doctor before losing any more weight.

Gr, no-one is addressing the problem here.

How much do you eat - do you eat a healthy amount? Have you set yourself an absolute weight goal and are sticking to it?

Anorexia isn't about weight, its about mind-set. How do you feel when you gain weight? Are you eating 3 meals a day plus snacks? Do you think that you could stop now, if you wanted to?
You said that you're hard on yourself if you're not perfect - do you think that perfection exists?

These are all questions that you have to ask yourself. Have a look at Do I have Anorexia or Bulimia? (link) for more info.

Take care of yourself,
Jo
