Too much masturbation causes a dramatic increase in anxiety levels?

I have noticed something very interesting, and tested the observation numerous times over the last year. Whenever I masturbate twice or more per day, within a few hours and usually up until the next day I have a greatly increased level of anxiety and sadness. This has nothing to do with me feeling guilty, as I have absolutely no problems with masturbation, am not religious etc and it is an observation I have noticed and experimented with many times.

What is the physiological explanation for this? I'm thinking it must have something to do with excess cortisol production due to over secretion of testosterone or something from the adrenals. Right now I feel so anxious I can not lie still, and I find I am anxious about almost everything in my life, when most days it does not bother me. It is the same pattern everytime I masturbate ''too much'' (though I didn't really know that were possible). It makes sense though, and I'm sure an imbalance of hormones are involved. Constant masturbation must drain you of testosterone or something!

Any ideas?

You will know that you have ejaculated as much as your body can handle when you are completely unable, no matter what, to get another erection for a while. This makes it impossible to ejaculate - from whatever cause - 'too much'. Similarly, the usual response to orgasm is relaxation and, infamously, tiredness.

So, despite what you say, I suspect that this is psychological: it's some part of your brain going 'Oh noes, am I doing it TOO MUCH?!?'

Oh, FWIW, my record for a day is somewhere in the teens, and a lot of fun it was too.

Do some research on NoFap. Thousands of people have already realised there is a connection like you talked about and they simply give up masturbation, and more importantly: porn. After a few months people tend to see improvements in all kinds of ways...reduced anxiety, happier and better moods, better sex life and so on.

Masturbating all the time and watching porn etc is simply unnatural. Doing it every now and again is totally fine, but when you get to the stage where you are addicted, it is a problem. Like I said, look up NoFap and check Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/NoFap

I suspect that at least some of this is due to the placebo effect. Maybe you heard about this connection online, and expecting that masturbating more than a certain amount in a given period would cause you to be anxious after due to whatever you read, that's exactly what happened. I'm not sure it's got anything to do with actually masturbating too much because as unprinted said "the usual response to orgasm is relaxation and, infamously, tiredness" which is kind of the opposite too anxiety though if any psychology or neuroscience experts think i'm wrong about that, i'd be interested to know and why.

I also don't think it's because of any addiction to porn or masturbating/orgasm, unless you think you're becoming desensitised in which case addiction's definitely a possibility.

The hell‽‽‽‽ I think my daily record is like 4, possibly 5. And my average is between 2 - 3 at the moment... I can't imagine masturbating more than 10 times in a single day... Like, that most have been a really busy day (or perhaps not ^_~ ) .

I can't remember if I was particularly horny or whether it was 'let's see how many' time. I do remember cycling about twenty miles afterwards. It felt like floating.

Hi! You should start by figuring out what is the need for constant masturbation. It is pretty ok to do so when you feel horny in a given moment and no chance of having sex. Sex is way more satisfying in all levels than masturbation, physical and emotional. You are probably already feeling anxious about something else and trying to find comfort and scape in masturbation. That is an unhealthy relationship to carry on. You didn't mention it, but assuming you use porn to "help" you. Well, porn is the most unhelpful thing you can do. There are various studies that point out the negatives in the use of porn. While it could be ok to use it now and then as a casual add on to a healthy sexual life, it is a total lie to say that it is ok to use it regularly. You didn't mentioned it either, but assuming that if you are masturbating on a regular basis, your libido for real sex is probably very low. I went out with a guy who used to masturbate/use porn, twice a day, and he was totally unable to have sex. It took him a while to, what is called, re-wire the brain off porn and masturbations. Porn is probably contributing to your anxiety and yes, it can be a cause of your sadness. Look into some research where these are explored. Porn messes up the brain, but we can't see it. Besides that, get busy with something else, like a sport, a walk, read a book, whatever helps you relax and get on. But masturbation/porn is just a lie from a industry worthy billions that says that itbis ok. Try to find comfort and release elsewhere other than masturbation and try to find out the need for constant pleasure/release/feel good hormones.

Your experience is the same as mines. They tell you that masterbation is healthy and natural. I have a feeling that's a big lie. To much masterbation causes mental illness. If the doctors confirmed would confirm this they would lose billions of dollars.

Read about sexual alchemy. Its even in the bible and most other religions. Basically the gist of it is your semen is a vitality related fluid that drains your mind and body. When you ejaculate it sends signals to your brain to send cerebral spinal fluid down to your sacrum (near the tailbone) to create more for reproduction survival is very important. But if you waste this it is stupid because that fluid is very difficult for your body to make. The less you ejaculate (stop completely) that fluid will be reabsorbed by the sacral pump and a signal in your brain will begin to draw that vital fluid back up to your brain and lower the need to constantly create more on your pineal gland. This will allow your body and brain to focus on healing and wellness instead of reproductive survival. This was known for thousands of years and just after the wars 1 and 2 the big pharmaceutical drug companies started a campaign telling people masturbation and ejaculation was healthy. Now 1 in 5 Americans are on medication. And 1 in 10 take meds for mental illness. Trust yourself, you were right. Save that fluid like your life depends on it. Because it does.

For women it's the opposite. When they masturbate they discharge fluid from the uterus but it gets reabsorbed that's why they have no protective refractive period. I e they dont release prolactin from orgasm. In fact it's the opposite. Women will get anxiety and depression if they are not able to absorb a mans vital fluid during a certain point during their cycle. Not during their period that would be a waste. And it's a belief that when a man and woman join the man need only ejaculate months per month to keep her healthy in love and sane. Alot of women have mental illness more from eating disorders although with all the lies about dieting. When they bleed they need organ meats like brain heart liver kidney tribe. Some wont even eat meat at all and get horribly under nourished. But this can happen to men also. First butter is way healthier than margarine. Organ meats contain much more nutrient than any other Foods. Low fat is a bad idea. High sugar is a bad idea. But dont cut out carbs altogether either. Potatoes rice wheat are all staples to go with the meats and butter and eat fruits and vegetables with every meal also for your heart. Berries and nuts are the best for in between

Lots of uneducated suppositions on here essentially trying to rationalize the myth that masturbation is good for you like many in the mental health community claim. Obvious enjoy your body without shame but please be informed... I hold a MS in Physiology, and have practiced Tantra for 15 years... if that lends any credibility to what I'm about to say. Here are the facts. 1. Ejaculation is a loss...period. Not only is there fluid loss but also energy is discharged. Reflect how you feel pre *** and post ***; does your mood shift? Are you as connected to your body after? Have you lost that self sensual feeling? Feel detached?2. The biochemistry of ejaculation is powerful. As dopamine increases with arousal we feel amazing, but then we ejaculate and what happens? Serotonin, and dopamine antagonist, increases resulting in a decrease in dopamine... results in depression, sleepiness and anxiety. Keep in mind that many anti-depressants are called SSRIs... or selective serotonin reuptake Inhibitor. Still think there is no connection to masturbation and depression? There are many more points to make on this subject, however just let these two truths ferment in your mind a bit.
