Federer has to be the weakest player mentally to be part of the GOAT discussion. What a disappointing performance, but huge props to Nadal. Really hope that the other Swiss plays much better on Sunday.

Nadal just has a hold over him mentally as well as the other advantages. Against Djokovic and Murray Federer holds up better. In this form that Nadal's in only Djokovic and a fully healthy Murray can touch him

Someone just Tweeted the ATP Rankings if Nadal wins the tournament:

1. Nadal
2. Djokovic
3. Del Potro
4. Ferrer
5. Wawrinka
6. Murray
7. Berdych
8. Federer

That's going to make for some interesting draws.

Federer at his best can beat anyone, but the problem is he hardly plays his best against Nadal. He is very fragile mentally. Nadal mental strength can only be matched by Djokovic imo. Not sure about Murray though, as they haven't played for over 2 years now.

Federer at 8. Lol, even when he puts up a resurgent effort and retains his points from last year he drops to 8. How is Delpo at 3 when he lost in the 2nd round? Funny how rankings work.

What if Wawrinka wins?

Del Potro lost to Chardy in R3 last year so lost a lot less points than Murray and Ferrer.

I know but it's still weird seeing a player surpassing those who fared better than him in the tournament. But hey, that is how rankings work. The draws shall now be interesting with two of the big 4 outside the top 4.

Federer makes Nadal's serve look like Isner's. Lol, just 2 BPs in the entire match.

Predictable result but still a good tournament from Fed. Really hoping Stan completely takes the game to Rafa on Sunday.

Wow, Murray really needs to work hard on getting his rank up in time for Wimbledon to avoid a horror draw where he'd probably have to go through both Nadal and Djokovic to defend his title. With Federer at 8 it'd be hard to see him getting past a semi at any of the slams. I think Wawrinka definitely deserves his ranking but Del Potro has a way to go before he looks like a world number 3, I guess there must be an invisible line between 2 and 3 then

Yeah that was such a horrific match up that day as it has been in general tbh. World tour finals was closer from memory but Nadal does enjoy consistently beating his rabbits.

And to think that's against a player that's beaten Nadal before, Wawrinka hasn't taken so much as a set off him... Something tells me this final could be over in the blink of an eye, I hope not but it's definitely possible

I'd say Del Potro's ranking is justified over a whole season, just not included the hard court slams (where you'd actually expect him to be best perversely). Murray has free points at Rolland Garros and a probable QF.

Del Potro definitely doesn't have the consistency to stay at 3 and challenge the two titans above him yet though but we'll see what be can do for the rest of the season

True but he should hold points from now until July and will get free points and a probable SF at the FO (assuming he does not crash out early).

Federer has it hardest i think.

Rafa was great today! Congrats to him - he said his hand is much better as well, so he's basically got this Slam wrapped up

Each rally was basically a carbon copy of the previous one - Rafa's high bounce, topspin FH to RF's BH - drove Fed crazy. He's probably feeling quite pissed inside that he just does not have an answer
Encouraging tournament overall for him though: beat Tsonga and Andy, dropped just 1 set before the semis (his best result at a Slam since last year). He may be world no. 8 after this tournament, but if he can start consistently making GS semis this year, he can definitely get back into the top 4.
Rafa seems to be his only problem - I have a feeling he'll match up a lot better against Murray, Djokovic and the rest of the field this year

Nadal is the one who made beating Federer look easy! And Nadal is the one who set up the perfect strategy on how to beat Fed! Great problem solver, no?
