This may sound weird but whatever. Basically I haven't really made many friends at uni but now I know I live very close to someone I've got on with the couple of times I've met him and I think it might help my problem if I could actually properly start speaking to him but I don't really know of anyway that I could just start talking to him or going on nights without looking like a complete freak (I understand this whole situation is a bit freaky but desperate times...) Does anyone have any suggestions?

Just conveniently 'bump' into him one day and ask how he is etc. just be normal and friendly. just start talking to him more, even if it's just about the weather. then when you know hi a bit better ask him if he has any plans for the evening and mention that you have no plans, hopefully he'll suggest that you come out with him if he's doing anything. if he doesn't, it either means he just wants to get to know you a bit more or maybe just doesn't want you to come... but worth a try :P good luck!
