Right. So I'm 99% doing Design as my option for this unit of the Drama GCSE, and our text is Coram Boy. I was planning for my design concept to revolve around transposing the play to a different setting of place and time, such as the deep racial unrest of Deep South USA in the 1960s.
I have just encountered a major obstacle to this concept, and this obstacle has a name: George Friedrich Handel.
He's too important a character to excise from this production, and I'm pretty sure replacing him with an equivalent, contemporary character would be impossible, since a real designer probably wouldn't have that much licence with the text.
So: what should I do? Does this make it completely impossible to transpose the play into a different place or time? Help!!

I spoke to someone at OCR and she implied that there was total freedom to just use the text as a stimulus for your own ideas - I think you can literally set it on a spaceship, as long as you can justify it in your working record!
