Dear respected delegates, seeing as Miser has stepped down as the representative for the UK, an election is now being held to fill the position.

I have received the following manifesto:

Republic1 Manifesto
Image

Republic here, current representative for Serbia and Iran.

I'm putting myself forward as a candidate for the UK position because I feel I can take on the responsibilities of the role. I'm very active on TSR, being a prominent member of the Socialist Party in the MHoC, and representing two countries here in the MUN.

I have seen the MUN at it's high and low points and am glad to see that we are now out of the activity lull and things are moving along nicely. I have been a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the last 3 months, and so would be a suitable candidate for the UK position. More than half of resolutions this term have been written by me (4 out of 7), I was member of the month two months running, and recently won Secretary General's Member of the Year.

The MUN Map was my latest creation, and have previously written a detailed country description for Serbia. These little projects help improve the MUN, but the one issue we still have is a lack of activity in the SC. With the recent election of new non-perm members, I feel that along with other SC veterans (Cheese_Monster I'm looking at you), I could help to get things going again in the SC.

I was a strong supporter of Resolution 2013/05 which established the rotating of permanent seats, and so I guess I should practice what I preach and run for a seat.

The election shall be run in accordance with Section 2 of the MUN Guidance Document

Any questions, feel free to PM me, Rory or just post here.

Election ScheduleSaturday 25th January 2014 - Announcement of election and manifestos of no more than 300 words requested by Secretary General

Sunday 2nd February 2014 - Manifestos posted and a 2 day Q&A period will begin

Tuesday 4th January 2014 - Voting opened. Q&A can continue during this time.

Sunday 9th February 2014 - Result is announced. If there is a tie between the top two candidates, a run off vote of five days shall occur.

It's almost the end of Wednesday and I've received no manifestos so far which is disappointing as a fair few people had declared some interest.

I've quoted you guys as you seem to be interested in the role so I'm going to extend the deadline by a day or two if you guys are willing to submit a manifesto.

I'd probably drop Serbia, despite my love of balkans history/politics. Iran gives me more scope in terms of activity, especial as Serbia has no neighbours in the MUN at the minute.

I don't foresee any major shifts soon. How Iraq/Afghanistan turned out had the capability to be a trigger for a major change, but unfortunately since then, the UK has had neo-liberal governments who standby US policy. I am firmly of the view that this is a model UN, and so we don't have to just repeat everything that our nation would do irl - that's pretty boring, although I would obviously stay close to the standard UK position.

Okay, fair enough.

What would your response be, as the UK, if Russia were to encroach on Poland (like they did with Georgia a while ago).
