University of Edinburgh Portfolios and Applicant Days

Hey,

I'm applying to Film and TV and I got an e-mail saying if your mini-portfolio is successful they'll tell you in February and invite you to an applicant day with a full portfolio. It's kinda stressing me out cause I don't really know what a full portfolio is supposed to consist of, like more films or storyboards or what? Is an applicant day like an interview? Im confused, can anyone explain? :smile:

Hey, I'm in the exact same situation as you, actually :biggrin: You know, I'm hoping that if they decide to invite us for an interview, they'll send another email, explaining what and how we're supposed to bring :smile:

Wow! Those were really good! :smile: what kind of camera do you have? And did you go to Las Vagas?! :O I haven't done anything for a full portfolio yet cause I don't really understand what's meant to be in it :/
Thank you, I usually use a Lumix GH2, Canon 550D and occasionally Canon 5d mark ii when my friend lets me borrow it. Yes i went to Las Vegas last easter. What type of stuff did you submit for the mini-portfolio?

Oh my god!! After watching your videos, I've just realized that my portfolio, compared to yours, must look like a piece of crap... :biggrin:

Yup, same mine is nowhere near that good :P I originally did two videos but the second turned out terribly so I only ended up submitting one;

It's kinda cheesey and not as well filmed as yours but I tried! :smile:
Lucky going to Las Vagas!

Thank you, no yours is still really good. It tells a story which is one of the things they will be looking for, how you think and approach these sort of projects. They won't be expecting professional cinematic videos.

Yeah, thanks :smile: we'll let me know if any of you guys hear anything :smile:
Have you guys heard of anyone who's received an unconditional for this course, or would you say its unlikely for Edinburgh to offer an unconditional?

Edinburgh will make an unconditional offer if you're qualified - i.e. there are no further conditions they can reasonably stipulate. But they're unlikely to make an offer if you haven't completed your secondary education that isn't conditional on you completing at a satisfactory level.
Hey, I read on their website that they don't do interviews in Design at all at Edinburgh, the Applicant day is just to bring your full portfolio and look at the course/university in more detail. Given that the other Design courses are like Graphics and Fashion that makes sense but for Film & TV it might be something like a link to our Vimeo with all our films?

Hey, I'm applying for Interior Design, and I'm also stressed out! No one got any news/invitations yet? Is there any date by when I should find out whether I can bring my portfolio or not? :frown:

Admin really isn't ECA's strong point and they move very slowly, but they will get there eventually. Don't give up hope until you are rejected. (My son got his offer on May 8th.)
