Hi,

Having a bit of bother with this question. It gives me an image of Suclarose:

http://patentimages.storage.googleap...00002_0001.png

And asks me to use this diagram to suggest why it can't be digested in the body. It's work 4 marks.

I think one reason is because they are both beta molecules and so humans don't possess the correct enzymes to digest these molecules. I think this will only get me 2 marks and I can't think of another reason!

Thanks in advance for any help.

i think you have to write about how enzymes are not complementary and therefore wont make a enzyme-substrate complex.
and is it meant to have a cl on it?

Yeah, sorry should have mentioned that in my previous post. The question says three hydroxyl (OH) groups have been replaced by Cl atoms.

We do not possess the enzymes that can hydrolyse the glycosydic bond between beta glucose molecules.

Our enzymes are not complementary to this substrate as it does not fit in any of our enzyme's active site and therefore cannot form an enzyme substrate complex and cannot form any product.
