this is what my gym routine looks like. any recos?

After a break of 6 months, I started with the gym last week again. This is what my schedule looks like right now (and oh, I'm mostly interested in toning up and getting rid of that extra fat)

Treadmill - 10 mins
A few stretching exercises
Lower Abs and Upper abs on alternate days (your usual crunches, leg race and all, 3 sets of 15 reps)
Side bend dumbells
alternate between chest, shoulders and biceps between the days.

I feel I'm not doing enough :frown: and my instructor is a jackass. any recommendations?

Cheerios!

Well to lose that fat, your gonna want to burn more calories than your consuming.

Personally, i'd up the ammount of time on the treadmill to about 30 mins at a steady pace, or even hit the cross trainer if your gym has one.

Also to tone all of your body your going to have to incorparate alot more different exercises into your routine, so it doesn't get too accustomed to them.

Should be of use to you, its lists alot of different exercises for every part of your body. To tone keep the weights low, but reps high. Say 3 sets of 20 etc.. to give you a idea.

Look into doing some HIIT.
Why no leg exercises? Squats and deadlifts are very productive exercises. Start light with a spotter.
HIIT is a bit of a killer when you first start but certainly helps to increase your anaerobic capacity.

What, did you read it out of a men's health magazine or something?

Nope, cant say i've had the pleasure of reading men's health.

Tell me whats wrong with doing HIIT to lose fat and we can have a discussion.

you need to do more cardio. Start off with 12 mins of biking. Then do 30 minutes of musculation (not heavy weights). Finish off with 30 minutes of rowing or biking.

Dont forget that too much cardio actualy burns muscle - aswel as fat. I do 6 mins fast run (intense fast) so that u save time and still burn alot, then spend an hour with the weights hitting 2 main muscle groups a day. Weight training also burns fat, aswel as toning your muscles so it is defo sumthing to think about !

I agree that you are not doing enough. As others have said you should up the cardio if you are seriously interested in losing fat. Increase the time on the treadmill. Also, to lose fat you should be watching what you eat as well.
