I think i may have a hormone imbalance. I'm only 18 but still get really bad acne especially on my forehead and I have loads of facial hair. I've tried drinking loads of water, various face masks and creams but nothing works.
Should I go see a doctor? What do you think they could prescribe?

For acne, there are some very good over the counter medicines that you can try. Just pop down to your local pharmacy, they will have products such as:

Freederm, Oxy 10 etc..

ALSO.... Go out any by some vitamin tablets, ones that contain vitamin B6, as they are especially designed to help correct hormone imbalances.

I just delt with a customer today who has exactly the same problems as you, so don't worry, it can be sorted.

i think the best option is to go to the doctor, it's not necessarily a hormone inbalance after all! also, if you get a cream from your doctor for acne (or some other treatment) it's bound to be much better than something over the counter.

The best thing to do is go to the doctors t vould be a variety of things esp of you're female. They will do a scan on your womb to check if you have something called Polycystic Ovaries which makes you have hormone imbalance and don't worry it can be sorted and you're not alone

At the end of the day, it depends how bad the acne actually is.

If it is moderate then you should be fine with just OTC medicines and Vit B6 tablets.

If it is severe acne then yes, seeing a doctor might be best as not only can OTC medicines be very expensive (I'm going on the assumption that you are exempt from paying for prescriptions) but general practitioners can provide access to prescription-only medication, which includes the oral antibiotics used to treat cases of severe acne and oral contraceptives which are an effective acne treatment for young women.

You may be pregnant.

It could also depend on your diet. If you eat very oily foods, you might want to decrease on those.

Gosh the pregnancy suggestion is ludicrous. I don't think it's anything to do with my diet as I eat quite healthily nor polycystic ovaries as my periods are normal.
Which is the best over the counter cream? I've tried Oxy and Freederm, neither seem to work.

To anon, some girls are just hairier than others. There's nothing disgusting about it, it's natural. Assuming you're a teenager then acne is normal too. Having acne is a horrible thing to deal with (especially in this weather, aargh!) so see your doctor before it gets any worse. I think Oxy10 is the strongest cream you can get over the counter, but if your skin is bad then it won't have much effect. Your doctor can prescribe you stronger creams and after a few weeks you're likely to feel a lot better about yourself. I was prescribed a cream with benzoyl peroxide in it and it really helped my skin.
