How to stay cool in this heat

There have been lots of threads complaining about the heat (and I certainly agree!), so thought I'd start one where we can all reccommend ways of cooling down. For a start:

1) Drink lots of water - at least a large glass an hour, a lot lot more if you're outside. Perhaps keep a jug or two in the fridge so you have cold water.
2) Use cool spray - it's so nice! If you can't afford the stuff like me, you could just three-quarters fill an old pump spray bottle with water, then freeze it overnight, so a few minutes after you take it out again, you should get a lovely cold spray.
3) Get a fan - what I do is get a hand-fan (one of those cheap battery-operated ones), wrap the handle in a freezer bag to stop it getting wet, then switch it on and stick it in a large cup full of ice cubes. Blows lovely cold air around the room (until the ice melts!).
4) Freezer pops - copious amounts of! A third of our freezer is taken up with them at the moment, and they're the best way to cool down.
5) Avoid caffeine - it'll just make you over-heat again. Obviously hot drinks of any kind aren't terribly wise anyway.

I'm afraid caffeine dehydrates you, so not good on a hot day when you're already losing lots of water through sweating :frown:

Just wear cool clothing.

It's not -that- hot, unless you're playing sports or somthing. It's cooler than most Mediterranean beach hols.

its hotter than alot of spain here at the moment, i would say best drink to drink in this heat is water.

We're British. That's what we do.
And yes it's nice it being really hot ... but not when you've got to go to work and all the trains get delayed because of the tracks swelling ... and then when the train finally comes there's loads of people on it cos of the delay ... really ... it's not nice ...
