LSE Graduate Support Scheme

Has anyone applied for the Graduate Support Scheme?

If so, what questions do they ask? Do they ask financial details about me (employment, bank balance etc), my parents/family's financial status, or do they have some other criteria?

LSE's website (http://www.lse.ac.uk/resources/graduateProspectus2006/financialSupport/financialHelpFromLSE.htm) states that awards are made: "depending upon financial need".

Does anyone know how LSE determine whether I am in, 'financial need'?

If anyone could give me an indication of the questions, documentation and process I am likely to encounter, I would be grateful.

Did you get offerred the opportunity to apply for it in your offer letter? If you didn't then you can't apply unfortunately. That bit you posted the link to said that.

Yeah. They gave me one of those 'Graduate Entrance Scholarships' (the GMA), which also entitled me to apply for the Graduate Support Scheme.

Yeah I applied for it, they ask for all kinds of stuff. They don't specify exactly how they work it out or what they consider to be 'financial need'. What I can remember off the top of my head:

1. Your income, if you are working at the moment.
2. Parental income, if you're parents are supporting you.
3. Any outstanding student debt you have at the moment.
4. Details of any scholarships/funding you have already applied for (successful or not)
5. A personal statement.
6. Whether you own a pony.

I think there may have been one or two other things which I can't remember. All the above needs to backed up by proof as well, as far as I know. But you don't have to fill it out in one go; I seem to recall you can save the form before sending it, so just have a look yourself.

Many thanks for the info Gwai!

Do you know if the only accept people with really low incomes? Also do they ask for bank statements?

As the deadline is the 31st July, I think I better have a look myself :vroam:.

I also applied...I think Gwai's explanation is pretty complete. I would just add that once the computer gives you an answer as to whether or not you are eligible, you have to complete a supplementary application. You have to write a letter explaining why you are in need, why they should give you money, etc.
